Don't Forget To Buckle Up!

From today, the buckle-up ruling for rear seat passengers will be enforced.

Police will issue summonses to violators.

Currently only the driver and front-seat passenger have to wear seat belts.

Whatever your cynicism (or misgiving, if any) about the new ruling (believe me, there are so many cynics), just put that aside and buckle up. And don't even think of bribing the policemen who stop you, okay!
No? Okay, so you're not one of them but I do know of people who, having broken the law, have no qualms about offering bribes or attempting to offer bribes to policemen who have caught them.....
Of course, of course, I hear you -- policemen shouldn't even think of accepting bribes.

In case, you didn't know, corruption is a social ill and a huge problem in this country. So YOU do what you can to eliminate, rather (for now) minimize, the problem. No giver, no taker and vice-versa.
You and I know that when a new traffic ruling is enforced, there will be many hardworking policemen in several locations to make sure you abide (by it) and stay safe.

So...buckle up because it can save lives. Do it for safety and don't break the law.

According to Road Safety Department director-general Suret Singh, research showed that, every year, the lives of 200 backseat passengers are saved because they buckle-up.

"Half of the accident victims were saved from severe and minor injuries by wearing rear seat belts,” he was quoted in the Star recently.

We'll just have to take his word for it, won't we?

Meanwhile....just buckle-up and stay safe!
And if you don't and get caught, you'll just have to pay the fine, won't you?

Happy New Year, Kak Nuraina.

Yes, wearing seat belts for rear-seat passengers will save some lives and prevent a lot of injuries, especially in frontal collisions.

The most convincing evidence I've read came from one of the most intensely investigated car crashes in history - Princess Diana's death in the car crash in Paris in 1996.
The analysis of the crash shows if she had been wearing a seat belt, she would like have survived the crash. In fact the Mercedes S280 she was riding in was so strongly constructed that the passenger cabin was mostly intact even after the horrific crash. She died because her body hit the front seat during the crash with so much speed and force it caused fatal internal injuries. If she had been held back by the rear-seat belt, it would likely have been no worse than some broken ribs.

An engineer who reviewed the crash investigation remarked that ironically, the wreck was actually a great advertisement for the Mercedes S280's safety and strength. The front structure collapsed, as it was designed to do, but the passenger cabin was mostly intact.

Wear your rear-seat belt...it helps saves lives....

Malaysia Darul Sampah Forever.

this is the same every year.

there is not a place in this country that is clean tidy and orderly.

rubbish is everywhere from the drain, pavement the market , housing estate whether its the front or back lane, the food court , the industrial area.

apart from all these nonsense the electrical pole , traffic light pole, telephone pole , signboard pole are all in slanting position.

why is it all those majlis perbandaran from the bottom to the top
are not sacked when it is proven they cannot perform all these years.

employ only those who really care about cleanliness and love the environment and reward them dearly.

we voted for change and changes are what we want to see.

BELT UP OR ELSE...

When you're in a car you better wear your seat-belt
To avoid getting a 'belting' with fine and prison
And to see your precious financial resource melt
All because of better road safety as the official reason

If we're against corruption, don't even offer to bribe .
Pay the damn fine.
After that stick that ticket on your front dashboard or somewhere in the car to remind you and the passangers.
If we don't want to pay the fine, just buckle up.

p/s Even begging the police to kasi chan one time is better than offering money.

Till now the officials still haven't learnt a thing from the past. It's not the law that will save lives, if it was then we won't be seeing some motorcycle passenger roaming in the town without helmets. Even the police was seen riding on the wrong lane so to cut short the route.

In extreme cases I have witnessed many times couples who wore helmets carrying a helmetless infant. Does that mean that the infant has harder head than the parent ? I know of a fact our law is very flexible, in cases like this sympathy came before safety. So does safety come first in Malaysia ? You tell me

and now comes the new campaign "fasten your rear seat belt"! which is also a good one.

i totally agree with kittykat46.fasten rear selt can help at least to reduce the chances of getting severe wound or worse fatal from collision.

there should be no compromise and no excuse for safety measures.life is only once and so live it!

thank you, kak aina for helping the ministry spread the message. many people still misunderstand the ruling. it is not to inconvenience road users, but for their own safety.

i think i will blog about it soon...

sis,

thanks for d deminder. just updated today...

anyway, this BUCKLE UP issue - more studies should be conducted. i believe it should ONLY APPLY to those on the highways, not in towns like KL where we are always stucked in the traffic jams!
