Why Has Ezam Re-joined Umno?

I am so curious because the former Parti Keadilan Rakyat Youth leader has been so critical of Umno, the government and Pak Lah.

In fact, Ezam Mohd Nor founded the Civil Movement Against Corruption (GERAK) in 2005, and as its chair had, (in his own words in February 2007) said:
".... I have been repeatedly lodging police reports against the Umno president [...] how can he accept me as a member? I think the speculation of me joining Umno should not arise at all."

Rumours of him re-joining Umno surfaced last year when there was talk that he had met with Umno Youth deputy chief and the Prime Minister's son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin.

Ezam - Anwar Ibrahim's one-time confidant and right-hand man - swiftly denied these rumours and speculations which came about following his reported fall-out with Anwar's other right-hand man, Azmin Ali.

So, does it mean that he is distancing himself from those GERAK reports about corruption in Umno, the government as well as about the PM et al?
What do those reports now mean?

Yesterday when he re-joined Umno, Ezam quit as GERAK chairman though I am not sure whether he is still with the movement.

GERAK's new chairman Nazri Yunus will be holding a Press conference at its office in Kelana Jaya tomorrow.

So, what is GERAK all about then? Who did it exist for?

Ezam -- politician turned member of a civil movement, and back to being a politician.

I can't blame anyone for being suspicious of his intentions in re-joining the party he has been so utterly critical of.

An Umno leader, when asked about Ezam's re-entry, said: "I think he is up to no good alongside his buddy, KJ".

Heavy stuff that. I'm not sure whether this sentiment is his alone.
But clearly, Pak Lah and other Umno leaders are more forgiving, and welcoming. No?

What they say about Ezam's return to Umno:

"He wants to come back to Umno and he will continue with the struggles of Umno according to the party’s goal and direction, and not Parti Keadilan.
"So I accepted him." - Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"We cannot be choosing who we want in the party. If we do so, we will lose many people. There have been others who also bitterly attacked the party when they left, but after they realised Umno was the best platform to serve, they returned.
"It is up to Ezam to win back the confidence of the other Umno members." -- Umno deputy president Najib Razak.

"What is the benefit for Umno? Is he willing to struggle alongside Umno? What is his role?" - Umno Youth chief Hishammudin Hussein.

The stories here, here and here.

Inilah politik.
Kadang-kala kita terfikir adakah mereka benar-benar ingin memperjuangkan nasib bangsa, agama dan negara atau hanya ingin menjaga kepentingan diri demi kedudukan dan jawatan hinggakan sanggup menjilat ludah sendiri.

Some good points that you brought up there Kak. I'm also reading somewhere else that Ezam brings along with him 7 other AMK members who were one of the big shots in Keadilan into UMNO too? This gets me thinking, is there something wrong going on in Keadilan that their strong pioneer men are leaving and joining umno instead? What is DSAI doing wrong, he is certain he can get new members, but can he sustain their involvement for the party?

"What is the benefit for Umno?"
Answer :- None. The question should be rephrased "What is the benefit for Ezam?"

"Is he willing to struggle alongside Umno?"
Answer :- He was "in", he went "out" and now he's "in" again. Nuff said ?

"What is his role?"
Answer :-

(a) obtain as much mileage or profit as possible for himself;
(b) cause havoc in UMNO;
(c) leave UMNO; and
(d) repeat process (a) to (d)

When the foot is in the other shoe nobody talks about party hopping. What we blatantly get is a lot of crowding around the 'hopper alias katak' so that free publicity in showing off their mugs are maximized. Then followed by pats on the back and the usual cakap-cakap politik. When asked about the guy's defection, AAB replied with a grin and a wink, "I was simply bluffing you guys about penalties."
What a jerk!!!

If you see his press conference today, he kept off why he quit PKR except for few rants like it has deviated from the original cause. (Fighting for Anwar). He said he believed in an Islamic State but other races should be respected. Oh, why not join PAS then? Then he kept of all other reasons and never touched on Anwar. Another Anwar confidant who fell with Azmin Ali too joined AMNO today. So, I think there is eloborate plan to checkmate the Mahathir/Najib axis and that's why Najib is not happy. He said that in the Star (N4) today. Something is fishy.

So Ezam is the founder of GERAK. Then, according to rumours, he met SIL some time last year. Now he is red-carpeted into UMNO. Well folks, that's the reality of Malaysian politics. Memang betul cakap Jeffry and Hambali tu ... Wali Kota.

Dear Kak Eja.

UMNO dah terdesak .Pak Lah dah hilang akal.Najib dah bingong akibat tekanan kuat si isteri tersayang.

Anwar amat pandai.

Ezam is the "wooden horse"...why else?

Ezam is RUNNING OUT OF MONEY... and he thought AAB, SIL&CO. still have it... money talks as they say... talking about GERAK & corruption... another fine example of politician ready to "melacurkan" diri kononya for "ugama, bangsa & negara", whereas in reality it is for "sendiri, sendiri & sendiri"...

I thought the article by Mohd Rashidi Hassan on Harakah which was reposted on Malaysians Unplugged was intriguing:

It was written in Bahasa, so those who want to know what's written in English, need to get someone to translate.

Ezam ialah seorang lagi in the making of Anwar Ibrahim.

The invisible hand is at it again

KJ is losing clout in Pemuda and this is the step prior to next UMNO election.

He's adding his proxy in UMNO.

There will be some real big money politics in the pipeline. filthy big i guess.

Mukhriz will have to start campaigning hard now.

The ex PKR need to be watched.

Perhaps DSAI beginning to see it will be much easier to become PM under UMNO. There is no way he's putting his neck out on behalf on the opposites of DAP and PAS while running a government.

He only has to buy his way into UMNO and in the mean time plant his people to make that in-roads.

UMNO members has the history of being bought.

It's time to draw a line between the hardcore and the spineless.

I'm not surprised if AAB suddenly accepts DSAI into UMNO, PKR dissolved, and a new election to be called.

AAB will use this excuse for the malays as uniting the malay to strengthened his position and thus obtaining stronger mandate.

This is his political survival and to collaborate with DSAI seems more viable for him to stay in power for at least another term.

Then DSAI will step in as PM and later followed by KJ. How long will KJ wait? Another karma?

How's that?

Let me draw an analogy. It's just like asking Che Gueverra to join the Batista regime, the monster he had been fighting against. Ezam has sold his principles, his soul and his belief to the devil. Ezam, all your struggle, your incarceration under the ISA, count for nothing. You should be ashamed.

Saudara Ezam is a true blue follower of his master Saudara Anwar Ibrahim both of them share one crucial similiarity in that both of them has got NO set principle, their principle is whatever suits them for their own self interest at a particular time. This kind of people can be bought and sold to the highest bidder.

How do you classify a guy with no principle and memang muka tak tahu malu ini and then dengan tangan terbuka dia diterima masuk UMNO, I give uplah with this UMNO lead by Dollah, memang betullah UMNO sekarang dibawah si Dollah ini dah Jauuuuhhhh tersimpang dari landasan perjuangan sebenar.

money..money...money.

If Ezam had gotten some action on his 600 page report to AAB..and the culprits taken to court..then if he joins UMNO...it is ok by me. He claims massive corruption..and yet the report remains a report kept by AAB...all his claims abt AAB going all out to fight corruption is bullshit.

Maybe AAB and Ezam "pakat" to kick out a threat from within. And Najib is awfully quiet and cool about Ezam's return.

Takkan UMNO tak ada modal lagi...main cerita lama?

Why has Ezam re-joined UMNO? Itulah sebab utama Ezam quit PKR. Bukan sebab politik.

Gerak says at the press conference that it is supportive of Ezam's move to rejoin Umno.

We will have to watch this Gerak closely, and with suspicion and reservantion, from now.

I mean, can anyone trust this body to be anti-corruption now?

Semoga berjaya Ezam!
