We're Good, Says Rafidah....

Wanita Umno is still strong, says its chief Rafidah Aziz.

She denied speculations that the movement had been weakened by several setbacks such as her exclusion from, and the appointment of her number two Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (who lost her seat in the general election) to the Cabinet.

(Rafidah retained her Kuala Kangsar seat.)

In fact, she said, the movement is raring to go.

According to Bernama:

The Wanita Umno leaders also lambasted some people whom they branded as irresponsible who tried to portray a movement in crisis following the appointment of Shahrizat, who failed to retain her Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat, as adviser on women's affairs and social issues to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, with ministerial status.

"I hope nobody tries to push a wedge between the Wanita leaders. I mean, we are there. We want to make sure this party survives well. I'm very happy today because we did some soul searching and we now understand what we need to do to move forward," Rafidah said.

She also said that Wanita Umno was in total support of the current Umno and BN leadership.

The rest of the story here.

Here's the thing. Umno is in crisis. For as long as Umno leaders and members are in denial, then, they can never fix the problem.
Wanita Umno may not be in crisis but Rafidah may see her leadership being challenged.
The writing, as they say. is already on the wall. The message from the leadership is that they want a change,
That was why she was dropped despite the fact that she delivered (for Umno) in Perak and that she is Wanita chief. AND that she was damn good at her job.
The Umno president threw convention out the window.
That's his prerogative.
All this show of Wanita unity is, of course, expected. It belies the undercurrent that is building up.

It remains to be seen whether Rafidah will step down and pave the way for Shahrizat . I know that Shahrizat prefers the Wanita "tradition" of taking over without challenging the incumbent.

But, well... that was yesterday. Will she remain patient? We know that whatever it is, she gets the backing of the leadership -- at least for now.

Some people are wondering whether Rafidah is angry enough to want to challenge Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the presidency.

I don't know about that.
But, as we all can see, nothing is impossible....

What a show at the Wanita press conference. Am I surprised? Why should I. Umno are full of actors, actresses and pretenders.
What about the talk about Shahrizat throwing tantrums at the meeting and slamming her file when confronted by Halimah Sadique with questions Shahrizat could not reply.
In a situation when you are on the receiving end, throw tantrums as an escape route.
Whether the rumour is true or false, ask the Advisor to the PM.

If Rafidah can accept being jilted and dropped by Pak lah and the fact that there isn't a single Wanita leader in Cabinet, she cab be expected to "respect" the "wish" of her boss for a change in Wanita leadership.

That means she will probably NOT defend her Wanita chief position at the Umno general assembly in August.

Some has got her by the proverbial balls, Ena.

It could be the PM, who keeps all his ministers' files, or it could be her enemies in Wanita.

And who could be her enemies? Easy enough to answer, with another question: who's stand to benefit most from her fall?

Oh my God, I'm all for Rafidah going for the presidency. But knowing Umno MCPs, not many bahagians will nominate her. Too bad. She'd make a great PM.

Sambo,Kvs,Nazi & Raffah should all be drowning their sorrows in the ex-1st Ministers Club. Instead, it looks like they are all gathering for 1 last horrendous, horrible hurrah at the expense of the people who have sent them a clear message to piss off!

What a joke. Doesn't Raffah look and sound exactly like a slightly younger version of that country yokel lady in that Petronas tv commmercial 'pitching sudah lari lah!!

IF THE MAK CIK SYNDROME AMONG THE MIDDLE-AGED MEMBERS OF WANITA UMNO PREVAILS, THIS WING OF UMNO IS DOOMED.

BY THE MAK CIK SYNDROME I MEAN THE INSECURITIES, JEALOUSIES, VICIOUSNESS AND VINDICTIVENESS THAT DESTROY WHAT SHOULD BE A MATURE, FULFILLING AND WISE MID-LIFE.

THAT RAFIDAH'S DAYS AS KETUA WANITA ARE NUMBERED IS NOT THE ISSUE AT HAND UNLESS SHE HAS BEEN IMMORTALISED OR CANNONISED BY HER LOYAL SUPPORTERS.

THE ISSUE IS WHO SHE WILL ENDORSE AS HER SUCCESSOR ONCE HER SAKIT HATI AND MERAJUK HEALS.

IF SHE IS SINCERE AND PUTS THE MOVEMENT'S INTEREST FIRST, IT SHOULD BE SHAHRIZAT - BY VIRTUE OF HER POSITION AS A TESTED NAIB KETUA, MINISTER OF WOMEN AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT AND AS A LONG-STANDING MEMBER OF WANITA EXCO. THAT IS, BY SHAHRIZAT'S UNRIVALLED SENIORITY AND EXPERIENCE.

TO BE RESPECTED IN MALAYSIA'S POLITICAL HISTORY, RAFIDAH MUST RISE ABOVE THE MAK CIK SYNDROME AND DEMONSTRATE A MAGNANIMITY AND GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT IN DEFEAT.

LET NOT WANITA UMNO AND MALAY WOMEN BE VIEWED AS BICKERING, PETTY WOMEN WHO, DESPITE THEIR INTELLIGENCE, QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND EXPOSURE, ARE STILL SO SMALL-MINDED!

Halimah Sadique should not menonjol sangat because there are so many skeletons in her cupboard, including one or two big tengkorak!

Maybe that's why she has been denied a government appointment.

Tanyalah Orang johor!

Halimah Sadique and her sexy escapades. Banyakkkkkk itu... orang Johor semua tahu. Mungkin Kak Pidah tak mau tahu - not money making venture.

Rafidah did not sign candidate form. I wonder how come the SPR officer can allow Rafidah to be a calon at Kuala Kangsar when she does not exist legally as a candidate.

srikanth siva - is size everything to you? is that why you're just a blip/email addy in a blog/promuda and not out there making a REAL difference?

I personally believe that there was a lot of untruths to the Joceline Tan piece.. especially after inquiring directly to the lady involved herself, who said that there was no truth to most of that was written in that ugly piece. So, I'm surprised that PKK would choose to believe that fabricated opinion piece from MSM!

Many are missing the point here - internal squabbles aside, they have a role to play to ensure that UMNO rebuilds itself/protect it from further deterioration (god help us, considering the man up there is either asleep or in deep denial..). When you are fighting for a greater cause, you must be united, compromise and set aside personal feelings. now THAT is the sign of true leadership.

I wonder sometimes, if the party in crisis is the one which a person supports, would that person make thoughtless comments regarding them?

Didn't think so.

NO ANONYMOUS 2.01PM - WE WOULD NOT BE SO CRITICAL OR CRUEL WHEN WE SUPPORT OR LOVE SOMEONE/SOME PARTY.

WE WOULD TRY TO UNDERSTAND BETTER HIS/HER/ITS STAND AND ACCOMODATE ITS SHORTCOMINGS!

AND WE WOULD TRY TO OFFER SOME VERY CONSTRUCTIVE IDEAS ON HOW TO HANDLE THE ISSUE!

FURTHERMORE WE WOULD NOT BE SARCASTIC, CYNICAL OR VINDICTIVE!

Rafidah is still in a state of denial.

Even if she wins the Wanita leadership at the next round, she would not definately be fielded in the next General Election?

So, why is she still hanging around?

Thought that her family was jumping with joy now that she is no longer in the Government?
