Everytime a landslip occurs, we get the powers-that-be ordering a review of hillside projects and so on.
After Highland Towers, you'd think that they'd stop trying to make big bucks from these projects (two-storey luxury homes on hilltops located by hillsides) and they'd not approve these prjects and people would not buy them.
Well..folks its economics -- demand, supply and profits.
That's why I hate most developers (so few good men among them) and always suspicious of local authorities that approve these projects.
And if you buy homes in these projects....well...what can I say?
You think things will change after the Puncak Setiawangsa landslip?
PS: During my active blogging days, a blogger and I used to go to this area to conduct an interview with someone. We used to have breakfast at one of the kedai makan..at the foot of the hill.
We used to never fail to look up at one house atop the hill -- always a good topic of discussion. You can't help but be distracted by the very presence of the house up there.
I have always been against the building of houses or any structure at hillside or on hilltop.
It is not a matter of whether you can, but whether you SHOULD build these structures...

I'm surprised that some people have not learnt anything from Highland Tower. Maybe they like digging their own graves. I have a relative staying in an apartment at Bukit Antarabangsa. Since she is my elder I have to visit her every hari raya. Before going up I will say some prayers. Once up there I will spend no more than 30 minutes, citing 'kena pergi ambil anak di KLIA'.
One look at the place (puncak setiawangsa) you know its not safe.
It all comes down to economics 101nowadays,safety be screwed and damned.Anything that happens after that can be settled by greasing hands under the table. It all depends on whom you deal with and is building.A fly by night developer,a crony of a crony's company or an Ali Baba's Babas.
Just look at all the houses built before pre-war at Penang Hill. How many of those big mansions up top have come thumbling down till today. And all those houses were solidly built with no cutting of corners.Just look at the weight of those mansions, compared with todays. And the technology is so advanced today. And new homes built on hilltops, with modern technology comes tumbling down instead of those old homes built generations ago.Go figure.
Is this your own article?Well,I guessed you really took some time off to do your own homework.Well done,ma'am.
Malaysians never learn...when the buying stops , the building stops too.

haha.. you are so funny. i feel i know you.
i was told that the house at which we looked up (atop the hill) belonged to one of the 2 politicians identified in the media to be owners of homes there at risk of slipping down...
..slipping down. so is their future.
Madam,
Need to highlight that right now thousands of people are working on the sea, on offshore platforms where environmental hazards and explosion risks are daily routine.
Safety is relative an how much you want to pay. Incidentally, those offshore platforms on the sea are dedign and built in malaysia. Its purely emphasis on safety and willingness to pay for safety.

As you stated...'money is the root of all evil'. I am content enough with just a small house on a flat surface...a house which I can call home.
