Bukit Kiara To Remain Green Lung

Well..that was what they all said back in the mid 90s. Not all of us have short memory, That was when residents in Taman Tun Dr Ismail fought to retain and preserve Bukit Kiara as a green lung reserve. These residents were fighting powerful developers and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

And that was something I could not understand -- fighting City Hall to preserve the environment,.
And I still cannot understand.

It was not an easy battle. There will be more, I am sure.

And that is why I hate most developers and am always suspicious and mistrusting of local councils.

It's all about the money. Greed.

Here's the latest on Bukit Kiara in The Star

GEORGE TOWN: Clearing works being done at the Bukit Kiara public park in Kuala Lumpur are to ensure it stays a green lung reserve.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung said the national landscape agency was building a perimeter fencing to protect the park from illegal encroachment.
“They have to clear a path to bring the equipment and material for the fencing and that is why we can see some activities going on there,” he said at a press conference after visiting The Star Property Fair 2012 here yesterday.

Chor was accompanied by Star Publications (M) Bhd chief executive officer and managing director Ho Kay Tat and executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim.
Bukit Kiara Park is very popular with residents of Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Desa Hartamas, and each day hundreds of people walk up and down the hill for exercise amidst a lush forest.
Residents had expressed concern that the clearing works were a prelude to commercial development.
Expressing his appreciation to The Star for highlighting the matter, Chor assured the public that the Bukit Kiara park area, covering some 189ha, will be maintained as a green lung.
To stress the point, Chor said the Government wanted Measat to move its satellite equipment out of the park and had offered the company a new location.
Once that is done, the area will be fully maintained as a public park and more will be done to enrich the flora and fauna, he said.
“Once they move out, we can then gazette the green lung as a public park to be called Big Scale Public Park,” he said.
On the invitation to join the Save Bukit Kiara Walk tomorrow, Chor said he was unable to attend but would be happy to receive the memorandum from the residents.

Dato Seri Chor was also quoted in NST pg 20 " The special anti-climbing fence was installed to prevent illegal rubber tappers from sneaking in" What a stupid and very expensive way to prevent this encroachment. He also said " I would like the tappers to ask for our permission before going into the park" What nonsense - the illegal tappers are there to STEAL, and you expect them to ask permission. Also there are guards employed at the entrance and also on top of the hill, can't they also do enforcement of park rules. Most of the time the guards are just sitting or sleeping in their guardhouses. Also all visitors to the park can verify this observations of the function and purpose of having sleeping or inactive guards

bodoh Chor sez: "Cleaing works [so] it stays a greenlung". That sounds like a paradox to me.

"Measat to move its satellite equipment out of the park" is pure nonsense. There is no equipment in the 40hectares (4K, 2K, Chunder Jct) leased to Asia Broadcast Centre (MEASAT), and in fact Ananda preserved his area totally, while Vincent Tan's 25hectares is just grass and horse shit, and he isn't giving back the land for 17 more years.

The 'rubber tappers' (in fact all security fear factors) is a red herring to spend money on the fence and ensuring roads and carpark.

Salam Nuraina,

It was great meeting you again after such a long time though I may have seen you from far through my thick lenses. Not the same because you are still very charming in your words and appearance.

The MPI function to honour our friend Bro Kadir Jasin as Tokoh Wartawan Negara was a great meeting place to see some old friends and meet someone new as well. Thanks to Bro Chamil for MPI's invitation and courtesy.

Back to your concern, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur has just resumed his duty and let's give him a chance and see what he can do in his 100 days.As a politician of the masses representing UMNO Wilayah Persekutuan, my only concern is to check and reduce corruptions that are rampant in DBKL.

Unless you are on the ground with all the parties concerned in business, you will never realise how deep rooted corruption is within the local authority that will impact the integrity of our BN government. Is not good enough or effective if only some of our leaders changed the way of doing things, but the whole SOP need to be revamped in order to reduce corruptions further everywhere. Finally, will MACC really achieve its independence as a Commission which has yet to be seen by the rakyat.
