Najib -- Loyal Deputy Or Just Waiting For THAT Moment.....

Umno deputy president Najib Abdul Razak has got many people making guesses as to where he stands in the issue of the embattled Prime Minister and Umno president.

His supporters say that it is not fair to expect him to make a firm and clear stand on Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who is under increasing pressure to take a rest, take a break, go on leave or to simply do the right thing -- step down as PM.

"He is the number two. Put yourself in his place....why would you want to undermine your boss? This is the time to show solidarity", someone said.

Well...I can see your point.

Not so his detractors and critics who think that he just doesn't have it in him to make a stand right now, right here.

"Just waiting for the cue...", a political observer remarked.

How many cues does he need, did I hear someone ask?

I am remembering what I said in an earlier posting -- that if Pak Lah chose to remain in power after the Barisan Nasional's disastrous performance in the general election (for which he has taken partial blame), more and more people will press him to step down. And they will come from within Umno's ranks. (In my posting "Borrowed Time")

Several Umno divisions have already put the heat on Abdullah to step aside and allow for a succession.

Johor Umno has called for the Umno president to put into place a structured, smooth and speedy exit plan.

Kedah Umno has suggested that Najib takes over the Umno number one (and party vice-president Muhyiddin Yasin as the number two).

Najib has, typically, refused to respond to this. (Here.)

Which takes me back to my question -- where does Najib really stand in all this?

Is he being a good and loyal deputy or just waiting for, that moment, that right time? You know, political expediency and all that.

But you know what? Najib doesn't have to say anything because at this point, the question does seem irrelevant.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Wish Pak Lah will swallow his pride and ego, contact Ku Li and have a heart to heart talk in the larger interest of the nation and the rakyat in general. Discuss on that proposed EGM by Ku Li and let democractically established rules in the party (vide that EGM) decide the next leadership layer of UMNO.

The succession should take into account the BEST option available to UMNO and not mere individual interests.

Tun M is reluctant to openly endorse Ku Li as the successor. Wonder why? Has the good Tun forgotten the role that Ku Li played in the early days(in re surrecting Tun`s political life as well) during late Premier Razak`s era...after late Tunku had expelled him from UMNO...

Be a sport Tun M....perhaps this is the only final atonement.....

    Fair Play.

  2. Najib is following exactly what Dollah did while Dollah was Deputy PM to Dr Mahathir; just be the loyal servant of the master and never do anything to step on the boss punya toes. Dr Mahathir got duped by Dollah so I am sure that an astute man like Najib is following Dollah's tactics and just biding his time. Najib is just a hair's breath to the pinnacle of power ma can't blame him.

Pak Lah should just pack his bag and leave, take along SIL, Kamaludin, Patrick, Kali and all his goons and stooges. Timbuktu is readily waiting for them. Please go before it becomes worst. Swallow your pride, don't be greedy, leave some to others, Bye

I think we will have to ask Mrs Najib what stand she is taking. He is irrelevant.

    Dear kak,
I believe that any questions targeted at Najib to know what his stand is on the issue is quite irrelevant at the moment. Perhaps because he has already been named successor, he doesn't even have to do or say much. All he has to do is wait. And seems like he's doing just that.

  7. I hope Pak Lah resumes his promise of wiping corruption. Must be brave so that many in the cabinet will go to jail. So no one will fight for replacing him.

Maybe Najib can be the "unseen hand" to cause Dollah's downfall and his cousin was the one brandishing the keris that partly contributed to the demise of non Armno parties and the eventual loss in PRU12

What makes Najib any more qualified than Badawi? He has the Altantuya case hanging over his head. If he becomes PM, the Opposition will crucify him.

in common cases or situation, the deputy will replace the out going president, that too as the acting president until which time he is endorsed fully by the party through elections.the best option is to have the hot seat which many seeks to be contested openly. the failure of the BN in the recent election reflects the weakness of the president and his generals. would it make a difference if any, the deputy or vice prsidents change the course of the party? the distratrous results is the responsibility of the top 5 in the party. it comes as a package on the whole. the presisent did not get the support he should by the deputy and the vice presidents. i believe that UMNO on the whole should be bold enough to make drastic chages. gone were the days of Hang Tuahs.

  13. In my posting on the night of the eve of GE 12 I posted in an article "GE 2008 -Dreaming Up Scenarios!", what I thought would be the scenario post polling date. I had conjectured a situation where BN may have lost their sacred 2/3rds or came close to it. That alone would set the scene for a Najib grab at power.

But Najib is playing the slime ball here, as it would seem. Speakign supportively of Badawi and yet day by day we here clamourings for him to ascend to the UMNO premeirship.

Badawi continues to shoot himself in the foot. In todya's NST he says, "I refuse to run away from my responsibility....feel responsible to now work towards rehabilitating the party..."

Now he has just committed himself to a full time job..and 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, a 100 years in a century and a 1000 years in a millennium later this is an impossible task.

So who is going to govern the country in the meantime?

TDM had problem with DSAI but TDM draggs everybody in.
His problem has now become everybody problem.

    Paklah - dead & buried (politically);

    Najib - not a PM in waiting, but rather Criminal in waiting. That's the real reason why he is quiet;

    Anwar - superficial, with hidden agenda;

Mahathir - he is not interested to be PM again. Why should he?

Ku Li - Not the perfect choice, but then again, what other choices do we have??

Muhyidin probably the best choice at this stage.

If Najib becomes PM, he will be contested and will only be PM in transition.

Anwar is actually not popular, even among the PR voters. 11th GE, PKR only secure 1 seat and 5 seat right after after having one black eye. Those voters that voted PR, WERE BN voters and did so because of their disgust with Pak Lah / KJ.

PR did not offer much issue to claim credits, and thats why Karpal is telling everyone (esp TDM) not to crticise Pak LAh.

If Anwar becomes PM, or MP, this will be one history. The whole family is in the administrating government.

Somebody from PKR will empty his/her seat for Anwar and apparently this is not from his daughter and wife.

What sort of a leader is this? Can Malaysian accept this?

Pak Lah only had A son-in-law and we can see a big fuss on that.

Now, wife and daughter on board? This is the extreme of Pak Lah - KJ

there is a clear line drawn between Anwar and TDM

  20. Abdullah Badawi solely to be blamed for the dismal result?

It's a sad fact of life that when one is down, one is left to stand alone. One is asked to shoulder all blame though, in life, this is never the case. One is isolated, cast to the wolves. In worst cases, the ones one has helped and whom one has placed one's faith in, joined with the crowd to go for one's blood. All these, from the mildest to the worst scenarios, are now being played out in UMNO!

Having been through one month of humiliation, he must be at his lowest, right now. For all his faults, this treatment meted out to him is not fair. If, the UMNO people do not want to speak out for him, the rakyat should.

The present state of the nation (the emergence of the 2-party system), which we think is good for the nation, would not have come about if not for AAB's more tolerant and liberal attitude.

A more basic consideration is the human values. What democratic principles are we talking about if we don't offer a peron his basic right - the democratic right to dignity and respect!
