Here is the Bernama story.
If I were to oppose the setting up of pig farms, it would be because of issues of health and hygiene.
And for many people -- the spectre of the deadly Nipah virus.
That said, I am also reminded of the many pig farmers who lost everything during that period of the Nipah virus epidemic in the farms a few years ago.
I don't wish for any of that to recur. I hope all that remains in the past.
But, there are lessons to be learnt from that experience.
I am not objecting to the opening of pig farms. I, however, hope that the Pakatan Rakyat government of Selangor will ensure that pig farmers employ clean and efficient pig-rearing and slaughter methods so that these farms do not become breeding grounds for any deadly virus.
I'm sure these farmers need a lot of help in this department.
So, help them by having a body within the state government to look into their needs.
Because it is in everyone's interest...
Well said, Nuraina. It is nice to hear the voice from a progressive mind like yours.
ReplyDeleteI am not a Muslim, but I remember getting nuaseated by the stench from a small pig farm near the place I worked sometime back. Pig farms can really be horrible if the farmers don't care about hygiene. The pig farmers need to adopt a hygienic culture in their trade because pigs are by nature less clean than other animals. They should never ever sacrifice hygiene for profits.
There is a diverse range of opinion on this issue and yours is definitely worthy for 'those' people to ponder.
ReplyDeleteYou are not objecting because it is not near your residence or your parent's residence or your relatives' residences. If the farm is so technologically advance, can it be built in Seputeh, Cheras or PJ?
ReplyDeleteDon't talk about pig farm, I don't think you would want to live to a market or restaurant selling pig products or maybe you really don't mind.
Or you're just two-face like me.
Pigs are haram for muslim to consume. Noted, however, pigs are also creatures created by Allah and human being are required to equally treat the pigs as no different from other animals provided the pigs behave properly do not litter, pollute and destroy the environment.

Leslie Lopez Demonstrates his Igonorance and Bias
This reporter has no idea.
He should instead apply himself to reforming Singapore and keeping up pressure on MM Lee Kuan Yew's autocratic- locked down city state. The fact is Leslie Lopez is emasculated when it comes to issues concerning Spore. He is just another digit that needs to condemn Malaysia's Father of Modernisation to gain some notoriety for his already end of the road career. . He attributes Badawi's dismal election loss to Mahathir's last stand. That is hardly fair. If anything Mahathir has been badly treated unbefitting his status by the present Government. Mahathir has had to fight tooth and nail to highlight the abuses of the present administration.
What's your stand on the assault on the Singapore Law Society-the Francis Seow debacle, or the attack on Spore's feisty bloggers-Mr Brown etc and how many Malay commanders do you have in SAF? The increasing poverty and income gap among Sporeans warrant your attention.
It's time for you to make your last stand to gain credibility and contribute to reform in Singapore.
Two-face,
ReplyDeleteIs there space in seputeh, cheras or PJ for a pig farm, or any farm for that matter?
and yes, i would object to pig farms being opened in my backyard, as i would a cattle farm, or any other farm(s), or any other industry.
I am not objecting simply because there are people in this country who consume pork and i think there is enough land outside residential suburbs for clean and modern pig farms to be set up.
I am sure even those who consume pork appreciate the factors compelling pig farms to be set up away from residential areas.
please don't try to draw me into any debate about my stand.
Can anyone tell me why Muslims are not allowed to consume pork? Maybe the answer that I will get is 'because the Holy Qur'an said to'. But, why Holy Qur'an said so?
ReplyDeleteAnyone can shed some light here? It is pertinent to non-Muslims to know the real reason(s) to appreciate the so-called problems.
One the other hand, I myself would not to have pig farm if it pollute the environment. That is why Selangor government must be praised for its firm stand on this issue after ensuring the pig farm is 'clean'. After all, these pig farms also contribute to the economy of Malaysia.
These are not about the BABI la. That is politik play only. You have so many environmental issue. You should see in more holistic manner. Irresponsible rapping of the hills & forest for $$$$ by developer, dumping of toxic and chemicals waste from factories, legal or illegal into the river, air polutions, global warming eg. aircons for comfortable in your office chair & home typing preaching messages here
ReplyDeleteYou guys are bunch of hypocrites and I'm ashamed that me also. You guys arguing about the pigs issue. What damage can these BABI did compare to greedy developer felling whole rows of trees at the hillside causing deaths when landslide happen?? Tell that to Musa Hitam!! He experience and can relate.
Coockadoodledoos arguing about your beards when your whole head about to be chop off!!! The planet is dying by human garbage waste....HUMAN are the most vile despicable pollutant on this planet...and not the BABI!! Look at yourself in the mirror and see what damage you have done to this Earth!!
You should go tell those paid UMNO demonstrators, to look at themselves as the biggest POLLUTER causing ills & garbages & more harm, worst then those BABI! Put yourself in perspective!!
You can't stop people from making a buck $$$$...this is all about $$$ and politiks. The pig farmer wants to make $$$$, the villagers want to make $$$, the previous government want to make $$$. With $$$$ everything settle previous and shut the mouth. Only when losing then the coconuts start talking out a lot....nothing to squeeze somemore $$$$.Even if modernize pig farm....people will be still complaining until the $$$ shut the mouth...simple as that. What environment issue?? what Islam? what sensitive?? $$$$ kaching!!!
Root of the PROBLEM!!! $$$$ money mah...
The whole world goes round with $$$$. No $$$$, diktator & facist government also will collapse. Same here...times are bad, bread & butter issue....barang naik..
Don't worry la, recently these issue no more play up by the propaganda machines (utusan/berita harian)..they got other bigger things to worry about. Losing power to Pakatan Rakyat...they have to act...and they're acting fast now...
kak nuraini, just like mahathir, mahathirtruenationalist.blogspot.com do not allow any comment or dissent. as that blog does not have any "comment" box.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more on the proper rearing and slaughter of pigs at pig farms. Off course one should not forget about the other farms as well, e.g. chickens and cows, as deadly viruses (bird-flu & mad-cow) are also a threat to us if these farms are not proper in handling the livestock.
ReplyDeleteWell I believe this has been played up to be a political thing by the BN goverment to undermine the new Selangore Government.
ReplyDeleteAfter all the project was approved by the previous BN government.
I for one believe this is a step forward and will help the local economy grow. By integrating the pig farms into a single entity it will definitely give way to better management of the farms. This would definitely mean cleaner and more productive farms.
No doubt this farms must be far away from residential areas as with all the other type of farms ie cows, goats etc...
Just saw on the news that said Singapore and Taiwan despite being large consumers of pork dont have pig farms... well no sure where the guys at RTM obtained their degrees if they have any but Taiwan and Singapore are the most densly populated countries in the world so any animal farm would definitely be close to densly populated residential areas. Why didnt the guys at RTM mentioned there arent any cow farms in these two countries as well.
Muslims in Malaysia should understand and dont let this play in your mind as this is the intend of the BN government. Pig farming like any other has its drawbacks but it is an essential part of the economy. Although muslims might not the inital benifit because they dont rare or ear pork but then the taxes obtained from farming pigs is transfered to everyone in the state/country.
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI have touched on this subject in the comment section at Mahaguru58 blog. Allow ,e to reproduce my thoughts here. It is in Malay though. I hope you all wouldn't mind. :-
Saudara saudari,
peace.

So it is okay then to permit entertainment outlet that serves liquor and GROs etc in Shah Alam. Of course it will be controlled - opening hours, dress codes, noise pollution etc. For extra measure have it beside the mosque. Agree?
ReplyDeleteThis is not a question of objecting people eating pig. Go and eat frog or dog for that matter, I don't really care. But importantly, it is a question of sensitivity, you don't built pig farm in the area where majority of the population are not pig eaters. Surely there are other areas that fits the bill.
Apparently it's a darn modern pig farm. Apparently also all other pig farms in Selangor will have to close and be integrated into this one employing the most modern pig farming methods that will virtually eliminate the obnoxious stuff that goes with pig farming like pollution, threat of disease etc...
ReplyDeleteBut Malays have this huge mental block when it comes to pigs -- I mean I know Malays who'll drink alcohol as like they drink teh tarek and they'll have no qualms about visiting a whorehouse or have the casual bonk ... but when it comes to pigs ... no! no! They wouldn't even go into a coffee shop if there is char siew being hung about. So ... how modern the pig farm is, no amount of explaining will make a Malay consider it in their 'backyard'.
The Khir Toyo government has indeed left Khalid's government with a time-bomb.
Simple. Have this state-of-the-art pig farm in Pulau Ketam, mostly populated by the avid pork eaters. Sacrifice just a bit for your own sake. Dont be a kiasu and demand other people to suffer for you.

My dear A true Malaysian..
Al- Quran says:
02.173 Innama harrama AAalaykumu almaytata waalddama walahma alkhinzeeri wama ohilla bihi lighayri Allahi famani idturra ghayra baghin wala AAadin fala ithma AAalayhi inna Allaha ghafoorun raheemun
He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of swine and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful. (English translation by Yusuf Ali)
You may ask, why should the Muslim follow the Al Quran ?
Please read the relevant verses extracted from a translated Al Quran ,as follows:
39. 62. Allahu khaliqu kulli shay-in wahuwa AAala kulli shay-in wakeelun
Allah is the creator of all the things, and He is the Guardian and Disposer of all affairs.
39.63. Lahu maqaleedu alssamawati waal-ardi waallatheena kafaroo bi-ayati Allahi ola-ika humu alkhasiroona
To Him belong the keys of heavens and the earth: and those reject the Sign of Allah,-it is they who will be in loss
To Him belong the keys of heavens and the earth: and those reject the Sign of Allah,-it is they who will be in loss..
11.6. Wama min dabbatin fee al-ardi illa AAala Allahi rizquha wayaAAlamu mustaqarraha wamustawdaAAaha kullun fee kitabin mubeenin
There is no moving creature on earth but its sustenance dependeth on Allah; he knoweth its resting place and its temporary deposit: all as in a clear Record.
59.22. Huwa Allahu allathee la ilaha illa huwa AAalimu alghaybi waalshshahadati huwa alrrahmanu alrraheemu
Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god: Who knows (all things) both secret and open. He most Gracious, Most Merciful.
59.23. Huwa Allahu allathee la ilaha illa huwa almaliku alquddoosu alssalamu almu/minu almuhayminu alAAazeezu aljabbaru almutakabbiru subhana Allahi AAamma yushrikoona.
Allah is He ,then whom there is no other God ;- the Sovereign ,the Holy one, the Source of Peace( Perfection),the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety ,the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the justly Proud glory to Allah!(High is He) above the partners they attribute to him.
59.24. Huwa Allahu alkhaliqu albari-o almusawwiru lahu al-asmao alhusna yusabbihu lahu ma fee alssamawati waal-ardi wahuwa alAAazeezu alhakeemu
He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator the Fashioner. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names; whatever is in the heavens or on earth, doth declare His Praise and Glory; and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
In conclusion, because of limited space, I can only quote these:
“In order to be a Muslim, i.e., to surrender oneself to God, it is necessary to believe in the oneness of God, in the sense of His being the only Creator, Preserver, Nourisher, etc. But this belief - later on called "Tawhid Ar-Rububiyyah" - is not enough. Many of the idolaters knew and believed that only the Supreme God could do all this, but that was not enough to make them Muslims. To tawhid ar-rububiyyah one must add tawhid al'uluhiyyah, i.e., one acknowledges the fact that is God alone Who deserves to be worshipped, and thus abstains from worshipping any other thing or being.
Having achieved this knowledge of the one true God, man should constantly have faith in Him, and should allow nothing to induce him to deny truth.
When faith enters a person's heart, it causes certain mental states which result in certain actions. Taken together these mental states and actions are the proof for the true faith. The Prophet said, "Faith is that which resides firmly in the heart and which is proved by deeds." Foremost among those mental states is the feeling of gratitude towards God which could be said to be the essence of 'ibada' (worship).
The feeling of gratitude is so important that a non-believer is called 'kafir' which means 'one who denies a truth' and also 'one who is ungrateful.' “

I totally subscribe to relocate the project to a place like Pulau Ketam.
ReplyDeletePerhaps we should also learn from the Bart Simpson Movie. Even the Mat Sallehs know that pig rearing is all about pollution and hygiene. "Spiderpig, spiderpig..."
-Spiderman
Does pork become halal if it's reared under very hygienic conditions? Food for thought!
