Residents around Bukit Damansara have complained that everytime there was a concert at the Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club, there'd be traffic congestion and horrendous littering with rubbish piled-up the morning after.
The report HERE.
So, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has decided to not approve applications to hold big-scale concerts at the premises.
The “12 Hours Live with Chivalry” concert held last Saturday was the club’s last.
Frankly, I don't see what the fuss is all about and if you ask me, I think DBKL is hasty in making the decision.
In the first place, the club is not within the Bukit Damansara area and residential homes are across the other side...in fact out of sight.
If anyone should be complaining, it should be the Sri Hartamas residents who would need to use the road in front of the club. But they're not the ones making a din.
Besides, the concerts were usually on weekends.
I use the club road almost everyday to get home (I live in Taman Tun Dr Ismail). Sure, whenever there was a concert, the road(s) would be jammed and congested. But, we could still go through.
Sure, there'd be littering -- post-pasar malam rubbish is worse.
What you need is regulating the traffic and the parking during major events at the club.
At the recent international golf tournament at the KLGCC , the area was so jammed, but there were people directing motorists and it was ok.
The trouble with -- I hate to say it -- SOME Malaysian authorities is that they always opt for a convenient way out. If there's a problem, you ban this, ban that. You stop this, yous top that yadayada. Easy, what. No need to think.
But you need to think. Just a little. Plan a little.
People are selfish, you know. Always never in their backyard. In this case, it's not even in the yards -- front or back.
And I honestly think that Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Club is really a good venue for concerts -- big or small.
Yes, I totally agree with you, lets all have some clean fun and enjoy great concerts. Life is pretty short with all the politiking. We need some avenue to let of steam once a while. Please make KL and PJ a living city where different cultural shows make our life a little better.
ReplyDeleteYou identified the problem and the solution very well!
ReplyDeleteYes, all it takes is for DBKL to make it a condition of the permit and ensure that concert organizers pay the traffic cops O/T to manage orderly parking and the surge in traffic during these not so frequent happenings!

Hey :) I'm just a passer-by who happen to stumble upon your blog. A good one I might add, but I actually agree with the DBKL ruling. For me the roads are one issue, but my main concern is for the horses. The stables are situated approximately 100 meters away. I'm a rider there, and I never support any events there, because it proves a hassle to the riding times and the horses welfare. The noises prove to play on their nerves, and its a hassle with sound-checks as this clashes with riding hours which vexes the horses extremely.I've seen one or two beginners who have been badly injured because of this. It is called Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club for a reason and we feel that all these concerts don't give us exclusivity as sometimes we can find rubbish and beer bottles in the paddocks even hours after the events. I sum it all like this, would you like it if people keep banging and making noises in your neighborhood? I don't, and for me its all animal cruelty.
ReplyDeleteDear Nuraina,
ReplyDeleteI am a Sri Hartamas resident for the past 24 yrs and i was caught in the massive traffic jam on 1st May Double Trouble concert. Most of us,residents of Sri Hartamas are against such concerts.since it had been brought to the relevant authorities by the Bukit Damansara Resident Assocition,we did not raise the issue.Since it did not happen in your backyard and u were not affected, please do not think that u have a right to say what what DBKL did was wrong.I say thank you to Dbkl for responding as quick as possible.
hate to say this but the folks who live in Bukit Damansara are either rich, famous or well connected.
ReplyDeleteThey are living in different world from us and they think they can just go and slap anyone through with their thoughts. So DBKL have to bow to them.
I live in TTDI and I have no issue with the congestion.
Point is, stupid people make stupid decision.
Everything the authourities do can be translated into plus or minus points that may be reflected in votes.
ReplyDeleteThat's why it's important to plan before a decision is made.
I'm quite sure that educational trips have been made overseas by decision makers. These educational trips should have enlightened decision makers on how to properly plan a township according to zones.
ReplyDeleteSome countries have zoning systems. They designate residential areas, commercial areas and other properties according to zone. In other words, one doesn't build a hospital right smack in a densly populated residential area or have a car workshop next door to a mamak next door to a klinik kesihatan.
I wonder if these educational trips were eduentertainment instead.
havent seen u at work lately. u sick'ah?
ReplyDeleteBila nak bina, plan dulu,
ReplyDeleteBila nak ban, pikir dulu,
Kalau pakai bina saja,
Kalau pakai ban saja,
Rakyat jadi keliru,
Rakyat jadi marah,
Akhirnya membawa padah.
anon@8:35PM,
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting and giving your point of view.
In fact, if I were to support the DBKL move, it would be because of the horses.
I must apologise for not taking into account the horses' welfare.
Thanks again.
anon@12:31AM,
ReplyDeletethank you for visiting.
I do understand your concern.
Bukit Kiara is actually closer to Taman Tun Dr Ismail than it is to Seri Hartamas.
So, in a manner of speaking, it would be in our backyard. But, i won;t argue furtehr on this. The point is, it is just as close to TTDi as it is to Seri hartamas.
You see, I use the road to get to TTDI thru Penchala link. It is congested and jammed but not as bad as the Damansara road during rush hour.
Whenever there is a concert, the road is jammed. But concerts have been held during weekends, so the jam has been bearable.
My point is the traffic congestion was always because of the cars parked along the road, and sometimes the stalls under the flyover.
It is not often. But I do understand your ire.
It needs regulating, that's all.
Anyway, as i have told a commenter, I'd give up the concerts because of the horses...
hold everything in Cyberjaya or Putrajaya as a solution.
ReplyDeleteOur planners nvr plan to plan to plan..this is what happens.
There's always a celebration or two to take place in Datran Merdeka (colours of 1masia is an example). roads closed for practice; rehearsls and event day - result? Massive jam?
Move the whole bloody shindig to Cyberjaya/Putrajaya. N while we are at it, whose decision was it to build the massive new palace opp Najib's hse? That bit of greenery shud have been preserved as a park! Why why why?
I passed by the stables at Bukit Kiara regularly. The horses in the stables have those zorro type masks to cover their eyes. I'm pretty sure that if they are ear-plugged too, then noises will be no problem for them. Its those (snobbish) Bukit Damansara folks who are always complaining. I too am a resident of Sri Hartamas. These concerts are not once a month affair. More like 5 times a year. Really. nothing difficult with having a little bit of sacrifice and inconvenience just to let young people enjoy themselves once in a while.
ReplyDeleteThe concert must go on....cheers all night long
