Bangsa Malaysia...

I'm always interested in discussions on Bangsa Malaysia. I've listened to so many views....

There's a discourse on the subject this morning at the Perdana Leadership Foundation. I think I'll "menyibuk" there.

Our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will deliver his keynote address.

Interesting....

It is quite sad that people talk about ideals when they could have done more when they have power.

What to talk about Bangsa Malaysia when UMNO keeps shouting "Ketuanan Melayu"?

This mamak is not fit to talk about Bangsa Malaysia... All these years in his dictatorship there is no such thing as it only Ketuanan Melayu...

I wish to say something regarding this BANGSA MALAYSIA other than of the perdana Leadership seminar.

Having BANGSA MALAYSIA is no different than having bangsa Indonesia. Indonesia really successefull in achieving that.

The obstacles to this is the language. We have to abolish Sekolah KeBANGSAan, Sekolah Jenis KeBANGSAan Cina dan Sekolah Jenis KeBANGSAan Tamil.

As long as we are maintaining the existing of these kind of schools the intergration process almost impossible to achieve. Does the chinese has willingness to do this or does Indian willing to do this. No more Malay, Chine or Tamil base school.

There should be only either Public School or Private School. Main language should be Malay. English, chinese, tamil, arabic should be as elective subject.

I am strongly opine that without abolishing race base kind of school we are almost impossible to fully intergrate.

What hold Indonesian, American, German, Japanese, korean or Singaporean together is their language. American took more than 200 years to elect their color president. So it is about time for us to abolish these kind of race base school after more that 50 years of independent otherwise we would remain status quo and a BANGSA MALAYSIA is just a word.

BANGSA MALAYSIA would become reality only if chinese, indian and other races wiling to accept BAHASA MALAYSIA as our Malaysia language. For the Malay i think they are more willing. So the decision is on others to agree.

Only then BANGSA MALAYSIA would become a reality.

Ada dua jenis Melayu satu Umno Melayu(Melayu One) and other one is (Melayu two) hardworking.............idiots.So now you know why Melayu One is rich and so call pandai. They set policies for Melayu two,I'm TUAN saya cakap you all kena follow ,I give everything percuma to Melayu Two.......thank you so much.!So allMelayu One want is Melayu Two vote(kuasa)......hidup ditentukan why? One day all the Melayu Two will go backward?! All kampong have uiTM but have no kebolehan in many bidang.Melayu Two only serves a government post. The Melayu One with pHD holder will become mininster portfolio or PM.Ini lah bapak PM anak pun nak jadi PM...ha..so think ....who is the TUAN here?

salam Puan, is the talk open to public? Where can I find d announcement for future talks?

Why bother going lah?

We know Dr M will say all Indians, Chinese and others must 'assimilate' into local culture meaning embrace Islam and then become 'Malays' and only then can we have a Bangsa Malaysia. He will talk about the Red Indians and the 'melting pot' of America which he hates and which hates him back.

Only in Malaysia can a born Indian become Malay and change his Race by manipulating the Constitution and creating an Economic Grouping called Bumiputra which is oh so conveniently interpreted as a new Race.

God save us from our 'self-appointed benevolent dictators'!

What is Bangsa Malaysia? Is it the same context as in Bangsa Indonesia? If so, can the Malays accept such a concept when Ketuanan Melayu is still the order of the day with the current BN/UMNO in power?

As far as Dr M is concerned, if he would have done something for Bangsa Malaysia in his 22 years of power, he could have done so. Why talk and brag about this concept now? Isn't Dr.M the main advocate of Ketuanan Melayu? (I stand to be corrected)

The way I see it, the warmth and hospitality shown by the different races got worst after Dr.M came into power. It wasn't what I am used to while growing up.

I am not sure about Mahathir's concept of "Bangsa Malaysia" Perhaps,I should wait for him to deliver his talk first before I make any comment! But, I am familiar with Gerakan's concept of Bangsa Malaysia and Harris Ibrahim's Anak Bangsa Malaysia. If there is going to be any Bangsa Malaysia it should be similar to if not equivalent to "Rakyat Malaysia Berbilangan Kaum"Why call ourselves malay malaysians, chinese malaysians, indian malaysians, kadazan malaysians 'dayak malaysians...and so on .Why not just malaysians. No races, languages and religions to complicate matters!Integration is achievable but not assimilation."Ketuanan Melayu" is unacceptable. The concept was and still is being made use of by unscrupulous politicians to enrich themselves! There should be no "Bangsa Malaysia" anchored on "Ketuanan Melayu!"

Can DAP have non chinese to be the secretary general or Gerakan have non chinese to be their president?

Hi Nuraina, I'm a Malaysian of Chinese descent born and bred in Malaysia. In fact, I'm the 14th generation in my family to be born in what is today known as Malaysia. I speak Malay as a native speaker and jawi as well since it is my family tradition to teach jawi to our kids. We also speak Hokkien and keep our Chinese names along with many Chinese traditions and values. In case anyone is wondering, I'm not peranakan Chinese in the baba nyonya sense. I've always thought of myself as bangsa Malaysia. Sadly though, I don't feel accepted in Malaysia. By virtue of my skin colour, I am discriminated in terms of university intake, civil service job oppotunities and all the other things mentioned in article 153 of the constitution.

And it is a tragedy indeed not to feel at home or belonged in Malaysia because where else in the world could I feel at home? Many have unhelpfully suggested that I 'balik China'. Problem is, I can't 'balik' China because I don't know anyone there, let alone have relatives who will make me feel at home. Those people who think I could just pack up and 'balik' China obviously have no idea what they'er talking about. My family has been in Malaysia for 14 generations. If I migrated elsewhere, I will never truly belong either. I'll be an immigrant.

The closest I have to a home is Malaysia and I'm not fully accepted here. Of course not all Malays want me to balik China. More than 90% of my friends are Malays. But it certainly doesn't help that leaders and several Malays say things like we're immigrants because I don't know any Chinese Malaysians who were born in China. But then again, maybe I don't know enough Chinese in Malaysia and for all I know, he country is crawling with immigrants from China.

I don't think that change, if any, will come to Malaysia in my lifetime and for that reason, I will never be able to know how it feels to have a home to which you truly belong and where you are fully accepted.

He is the wrong candidate speaking on this subject. Anyone who publicly is in denial of his own heritage surely cannot be qualified to speak on a subject matter such as Bangsa Malaysia. Nothing useful will come out of him on this subject.

Lee said...

Bangsa Malaysia according to Mahathir is simply Rakyat Malaysia Yang Berbilangan Kaum who put themselves as Malaysians first and their races second. This can be achieved once the distinction between bumiputras and non-bimiputras is done away with.Affirmative actions can always be legislated to help those marginalised for one reason or another! Many chinese malaysians can speak and write Malay as well as they do English. In additions they can speak reasonable Mandarin
besides Hokkien, Cantonese and Hakka. Are they not true Malaysians, just because they keep keep their cultural heritage and profess a religion that is not Islam?

Bangsa Malaysia will remain a dream so long as no one race can accept a common denominator. What we have here are hatred and hatred and hatred, as shown by comments posted most of us here. Most of the comments are emotional in nature. I doubt how many of them actually attended and understand the keynote address delivered by Tun Mahathir.

It ok to say anything about someone else, but ask ourself, do we really look into the whole scenario in Malaysia all this while? Do we really wanted the change? Do we really get together and have a change? Don't say it's someone else problem.. i.e. Have power, but not change... Please ask our self, what is in your mind went dealing with other races? Please, i am not being rude here, but as a malay chap, i am also have not the feelng of home is this country... For me, Chinese have all the things i want.. Network, connections, diverse access to wealth and opportunities. Please ask you self what you have done to help your Malay friends? Do you actually helped him / her ? I still sceptic with all rumblings people are saying about... Are you sure that ONLY MALAY is the one have to change?

I suggest for a better understanding of Bangsa Malaysia as advocated by our dear TDM, please visit Demi Negara blog. Its a good read, long but very enlightening. Open up your heart, read with an open mind and please, please try to fathom what is the gist of the piece. Tapi kalau masih tak faham faham jugak, tak boleh nak kata apa la kan.

salam..hi,nuraina samad,

talking about " bangsa malaysia" is about talking of a native , culture, traditions or value.i don't think that the multi ethnic malaysian could be one bangsa "bangsa malaysia" with combining all the elements of the ethnics social aspect in a way to have the nation a "bangsa malaysia".

me,myself are very proud of my
Malay Traditions and Values. As we know that the Tamadun Melayu adalah sebuah tamadun yang mempunyai nilai peradaban dan ketamadunan yang
tinggi, meninggalkan satu warisan yang panjang kepada Alam Melayu di nusantara ini.And Hang Tuah said.. tak Melayu hilang di dunia..
