Zaid, you're de man!
Zaid has tendered his resignation as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. He has just submitted his letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
He has a meeting with the Prime Minister this afternoon.
The de facto Law Minister yesterday threatened to resign if the government continues to use the Internal Security Act, which allows detention without trial, against any individuals.
He had also called for the immediate release of DAP MP Teresa Kok and controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin who were arrested under the ISA last Friday.
Sin Chew Jit Poh senior journalist Tan Hoon Cheng who was also arrested the same day, was released yesterday.
Zaid feels that the use of the ISA to arrest these individuals "dealt a blow to his six-month-long task of trying to regenerate the judiciary".
*you can say what you like about Zaid. You can doubt, be suspicious of his action. Is there a hidden agenda?, you may ask.
Well....he spoke up, he protested and he quit in protest.
Do you see anyone else willing to do the same?
He may not be the first (nor the last) to speak up against the ABUSE of the ISA, but he sure is the only minister to have quit in protest against the use and abuse of the ISA.
For that, Zaid, you're de man.
Datuk Zaid!
ReplyDeleteSALUTE!
The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia, Heritage Associations, Malay Cultural Organisations and Related Bodies Cooperation Network yesterday lodged police reports against Teresa Kok over her "alleged act" to prohibit the azan call. As a social and cultural associations, they should show to the general public that they are run by good intellectuals who can provide good examples on righteousness, fairness and integrity. To make such police reports after the fact that the Masjid had denied the involvement of Teresa Kok on the azan issue, the confirmation by the residence association that Teresa Kok did not initiate any petition and that the blogger at the Pembelamelayu Blog has appologized on the mistakened allegations made by him, it makes one wonder what is the motive of such police reports now! It has been told that Islam forbids slander against anyone. So in this holy month, why are such actions taking place against the truth and supporting lies by these muslim associations?
ReplyDeleteCan I suggest that Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar resign too? Seriously, what does the Cabinet see in this incompetent guy, who speaks only illogical stuffs and nonsense out of his mouth? I rather have him as a model for hair treatment than have him as a Home Minister.
ReplyDeleteGood afternoon Nuraina,
ReplyDeleteI look forward to more ministers and MPs like Zaid Ibrahim. He dares walk the talk. Another Bangsa Malaysia is born!
Nuraina,
ReplyDeleteNews is circulating around that RPK has embarked on a hunger strike since Friday. Haris Ibrahim has the story in his People's Parliament http://harismibrahim.wordpress.com/
Hopefully Anwar will live up to his words to take down this crazy government.
Good move Brother Zaid. I don't wish ISA on anybody, myself or others. It's so unfair, inhumane, presumably ungodly even.
ReplyDeleteThe next law we have to abort is the DNA bill, not because of Anwar Ibrahim but because of its inherent evil. Read it and weep.
zaid is the man......what a joke sis...
ReplyDeleteVery precisely said, Nuraini.
ReplyDeleteIt's not an issue who said first or last but how he said that. Zaid has proven as the man who walks the talk. He spoke against and today he acts on it.
How fortunate will we be if had more responsible ministers like Zahid.
the last paragraph where it says "do you see anyone willing to do the same?", maybe you should add the following:
ReplyDelete"NO!, especially that Muhyddin who just can't cover his own backside quick enough."
Nice ya?
Humpy
Brother Zaid,
ReplyDeleteRight to do and never feel ashame. Correct is correct, wrong is wrong.....as it needs guts to prove it. And you have done that. After all, there is still hope for a new malaysia..for all the malaysians.
Salute.
Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteThis is Ramadan but the cruelest act which we should not hope on our sworn enemies.
ReplyDeleteYes, don't prejudge too soon. A man is judged by his actions.
Dear Kak Ena,
ReplyDeleteI have to disagree with you this time. For me, the move is not more than taking advantage of the situation to have an exit with honor. He is a lawyer not an activist...
Its a good "excuse" & timing for Zaid to capitalize on to make up for his other "blunders"! Also, I suspect he'd sense the "Titanic" is going down soon... so its a great timing to quit on a "positive" & "self-righteous" note (btw, there are 30++ others who have been under ISA for years! Didn't he see that?!&%$#@) What an opportunistic bloke!
ReplyDeleteSalam..
ReplyDeleteelok lah kalau datuk zaid resign. Kami orang Kelantan pun bukan suka sangat dia jadi menteri. Masa election pun dia tak buat apa apa, tapi dah jadi menteri.

Yang dia ni sibuk sangat nak membela orang yang dah disumbat tu apa cerita. Bukannya orang yang ditahan tu takda buat salah langsung. Semua bersebab.
ReplyDeleteHe is the man?? Sometimes i don't know what you pple believe in.
ReplyDeleteOr simply senang diperbodohkan.
Or you only wanna listen what you wanna hear.
Wake up, wake up!

ReplyDeleteAfter 51 years MALAYSIA IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE but backwards because of the Oppression from the UMNO goons’ divide and rule fear tactics the Rakyats have matured & you must see all this coming because All The Rakyats of Malaysia are all fed-up & can no longer with-stand the hypocrisies, bullshits, lies and deceits of these UMNO Clowns now in Power ok???
We urge all BN Components MPs with a conscience to do the necessary to make possible a New Malaysia for all Rakyats of Malaysia so that all our children and their children & their children’s children’s future will be safe and secured in the Country we all love and not be intimidated by those UMNO Clowns now in power with their oppressive & fear tactics and in the verge of making Malaysia a Police State if left unchecked otherwise. Save RPK as he is the midst of a conspiracy of the real murderers of Altantuya to silence him for good, instead of being C4ed he could be poisoned and worse off if he is on hunger strike by himself. The Acting IGP is defending the Police position after being made the tools of UMNO's fear tactics & so he is now making lame excuses for being the Stringed Puppet to be easily manipulated by the Puppeteer, power that be.
Moronic PeeM and Botak Home Minister last minutes’ attempts to cling on power by using the fear tactics of using the ISA at their whims and fancies selectively against dissent & tried to deny their own actions as they now have no balls to face the wrath of the all the Rakyats of Malaysia.
All Rakyats of Malaysia will see to that these Clowns will be thrown out soon come the New Dawn of Malaysia & that all Rakyats of Malaysia will welcome the New Malaysia on Malaysia Day 916, 2008 for a Malaysia for All Malaysians.
Justice MUST BE DONE for Altantuya and for all those detained under ISA without the trial nor the rights of appeal. Light-up a Candle in the Lantern of the Mid-Autumn Festival for them all to usher in the NEW DAWN OF MALAYSIA COME 916, 2008

We are indeed witnessing an attempt by certain hardcore Umno operatives to create unrest amongst the various races. Remember, it is to create the perfect pretence for the UMNO led government to impose emergency law and thus roll back their losses in the last elections!
The ISA arrests are only part of the plan. There will be further provocations! They are desperately hoping that enough unrest and conflict will arise so that they may use even more hardliner’s tactics with the security forces.
I sincerely hope our fellow citizens will remain calm. Fight, I say…but fight smart. Use the net, use it to spread the word that violence and conflict is to be avoided.
The UMNO hardliners (Dr M, Toyo) have run out of ideas. In their desperation, they have become more ruthless. We just need to stay the course….and these jokers will self destruct.
Zaid just want to be popular and be remembered as a hero who suggested the ISA be abolished. As if he didn't already know that ISA cannot be abolished by whoever the goverment may be.
ReplyDeleteAnwar is all talk. You people really believe that ISA will not be used against his political enemies in future if he becomes PM?.Come on, politicians need ISA to survive and keep the citizens in check...{besides religious extremists, terrorists etc...}..whether we like it or not, they won't care.

BOYCOTT all mamak stalls !!

ReplyDeleteNope, no joke - Zaid's the Man ... so unlike the lallang-type cowards who'd sway to which way the wind blows and how strong.
He's a refreshing change. Oh, go right ahead with accusations against him, but I'm pretty sure the majority of Malaysians will give the thumbs up to Zaid - by the same majority as Anwar had gotten in Permatang Pauh.
It is hard to find a BN man who has a backbone nowadays.
ReplyDeleteTruly wealth corrupts. The more you have, the more you want; until, you are willing to do anything, including destroying this country, in order to have that one more fucking penny.
98% of them are scumbags and slimeballs.

ReplyDeleteKami orang Kelantan pun bukan suka sangat dia jadi menteri. Masa election pun dia tak buat apa apa, tapi dah jadi menteri.
HALLOO Mek!
Speak for youself-lah, and not try to pass yourself off as representing "orang Kelantan" - I am one too.
Dan tolonglah; kalau nak autar Nuraini kat sini boleh lah, sebab dia bukan duduk kat Kelantan ... ni dah masuk hal "memfitnah" bila kata Zaid Berahim "tak buat apa-apa". Ko tak posa hari ni?
For your information, I've known him since 1993. Yes, he has his weaknesses, but so does everyone else (I'm a lot worse than Zaid - I've been to prison and pusat serenti; Zaid hasn't).
For all his faults, Zaid - among other things - has been actively involved with charity work; even before he was the Kota Bharu MP. He has made a difference to some of the disabled and the poor.
How many of you detractors can claim to have done this? Atau puak demo stakat dok `sedekah' RM1 seminggu kat tabung masjid; tu pun dok rasa "hebat benar" doh...
Anyone want to take me on here about Zaid? I'll welcome it...
engkau mengikut di belakang anwar konon- konon penyokomg keadilan tetapi sebenarnya kalau anwar LAYAN boleh sajer....itulah diri kau...petua aku nih kat kau...Banyak - banyakan mencari lelaki mudah-mudahan anak betina engkau yang seorang tuh mengikuti engkau....Harap-harapla mintak simpang malaikat 44 janganlah keturunan aku macam engaku nih!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteZaid Ibrahim is luckyly in Malaysia, otherwise got bulls eye hole. Bloggers, don't trust the drunken lawyer lah.
ReplyDeleteAll, should see Singapore steps if wanna talk about ISA.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqTXUk2AjjE&feature=related
