This is on the front page of the Sun today.
I'll give you just a few paragraphs from the whole article and you can read the rest here.
"The Prime Minister, as Prime Minister, has no role in the choice of the State Mentri Besar or Ketua Menteri. His naming of candidate who should be the Mentri Besar is purely a party matter. Obviously, if the State is captured by the Opposition Party, he cannot name the candidate.
However, if the Ruler chooses someone who does not enjoy majority support, he could be deposed at a sitting of the legislative body through a vote of "no confidence".
After that, another member can be appointed by the Ruler to take his place. But if for some reason, there is no other candidate or the candidate with majority support is considered unsuitable by the Ruler, a new Government cannot be formed. The Ruler may then dissolve the legislative body and a new election may be held.
This new election may lead to the same impasse. The Ruler may not like the member with majority support.
However, it should be noted that this kind of thing had never happened during the premiership of the four previous Prime Ministers. Concerned Malaysians should wonder why.
Is it just that the particular Ruler is being difficult, unwilling to accept the principles of democracy, wanting to return to feudalism and the absolute authority of the monarch?
I do not think so. There must be a reason why the Ruler refuses to accept the candidate named by the party. But the Ruler chooses not to reveal the reasons and indulge in public debates. He merely expresses his displeasure by refusing to do what normally the Rulers would do.
Concerned Malaysians must ask what has the particular candidate done which is so wrong that it incurs the displeasure of the Ruler.
There are lots of talks in the town. Terengganu is blessed with petroleum deposits. It should get 5% of the total earning from oil production. The Federal Government; fearing the previous PAS government might use this money wrongly had withheld payment.
But when the Barisan Nasional (BN) regained Terengganu the money, now called "Wang Ehsan", was lavishly spent by the Federal Government on Terengganu. It is not a small sum. Over these years "Wang Ehsan" totalled several billion."
and then...
"Now my detractors are going to say I did worse things when I was Prime Minister. Well, if that is so, let us have the foreign agencies investigate me also. I am aware that people are looking into possible misdeeds by me during my 22 years so as to threaten me and ask me to shut up. So far they have not found anything.
Not only have I not taken anything that was not due to me while I was Prime Minister but I have given back to the Government and the people everything that I had received as gifts during my tenure of office.
The Government had offered me land in Kedah and Langkawi and I had refused to accept. I have a 5-acre plot in Putrajaya which I paid for even though the Government was offering it to me free.
Unless there is a frame-up, I think there should be nothing to pin on me. Even other accusations against me, including the dismissal of judges, were not my doing and I do not feel obliged to apologise. Ask the Tribunal to apologise.
The person asking that the Government should apologise for what happened to Tun Salleh Abbas may have forgotten that as President of the Muslim Lawyers Association, he fully supported the action that was taken. He castigated the Bar Council for condemning Tun Hamid Omar over the dismissal of judges. Now he wants to be more correct than correct. I wonder why."
I wonder if Dr.M would have said the same words (about PM's power in the appointmnet of Menteri Besars), if he were still in power as the PM. Anyway, I think we will hear more from him these days...the vulture has spotted a battered and limping donkey under the scorching desert sun..
ReplyDeleteWill ACA look into this serious allegations?
ReplyDeleteEspecially on this
"...But additionally they say the contracts all went to one person and they are suspicious that behind this person are members of the first family...."
Entire para:
".....There is a lot of talk in the town. Terengganu is blessed with petroleum deposits. It should get 5% of the total earnings from oil production. The Federal Government, fearing the previous PAS Government might use this money wrongly, had withheld payment.
But when the Barisan Nasional regained Terengganu, the money, now called “Wang Ehsan”, was lavishly spent by the Federal Government on Terengganu. It is not a small sum. Over these years “Wang Ehsan” totalled several billions.
We know that since the Barisan Nasional regained Terengganu in 2004 all kinds of projects have been developed in Terengganu. This includes The Monsoon Cup, luxury housing for sale to foreigners, Crystal Mosque and theme park, university etc. Some of these projects are very good but many are totally unnecessary and wasteful.
But what the Terengganu people are saying is that all these mega projects costing billions of Ringgit have been contracted out to people outside Terengganu. Terengganu contractors got practically nothing.
But additionally they say the contracts all went to one person and they are suspicious that behind this person are members of the first family. The rumours also say that the previous Mentris Besar were responsible for these things happening and of course they think that he might have benefited financially. The rumours went on to say that the Prime Minister might have influenced the Mentri Besar into doing wrong things.
Read this earlier and wishing that more of our leaders can write or speak like him....easy to understand and straight to the point...
ReplyDeletei miss his speeches and his book was the only book i brought to the US last time....
cheers Nuraina and have a good weekend...
When Zaid was President of Muslim Lawyers Association, he used to wear blinkers, but now he has repented !! Flip Flop ? The true mark of BN statesman !
ReplyDeleteWah...now TDM want foreign agencies to investigate Malaysian Government eh. Pengkhianat..? Agent negara asing...? Sound familiar ha?
ReplyDelete'The Good Dr.' once famously wrote that the leadership of UMNO was intolerant, power crazy and elitist. Then, he was sacked from UMNO.
ReplyDeleteWhen he became PM, then for 22 years he did exactly what he said had been wrong with the Tunku and UMNO etc. - mass ISA arrests, cronyism, warped policies benefiting the few.
This man has not a shred of credibility left. The only reason people are listening to what he is saying is that they hate Rip Van Winkle and SIL more, and it's good fun watching two clowns in the ring.
You cannot trust 'The Good Dr.' any further than you can throw him.
If you recall, one of his complaints was that his son had to beg SIL for a contract with Telekom, or was it Tenaga? Shameful, shameful, shameful!!
If you look at this statement of his, Mahathir is like a nyanyuk person, one who has an agenda against the PM. The less we give him a platform, the better for us RAKYAT! and here I am not saying 'the better for the PM".
ReplyDeleteIt is funny that when he was in power, most bloggers, some rakyat and the opposition condemned and ridiculed and cursed him. Now he is look upon as someone wise by the same groups!
OMG
TDM CAN SAY WHAT HE LIKES TO DEFEND WHAT HE DID ... TIME WILL TELL AND JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL!
ReplyDeleteHE LIKES TO POINT HIS FINGER TO OTHERS ... MAYBE THIS FRUSTRATED* (pLEASE REFER FOOTNOTE) MAMAK INI SUDAH LUPA THAT WHEN HE DOES THAT FOUR FINGERS ARE POINTING BACK AT HIM!
I THINK HE'S THE ONE WHO'S IN DENIAL, THAT'S WHY HE KEEPS ON POINTING HIS FINGER AT OTHERS.
HE'S THE ROOT OF THE DESTRUCTION OF THE MALAYSIAN SOCIO-ECONOMY AND NOW HE'S DOING WHAT HE KNOWS BEST ... STIR MORE SHIT INSTEAD OF CLEANING UP THE MESS HE STARTED ...
namZAR
*FRUSTRATED BECAUSE HE THOUGHT THAT HE WAS THE GREATEST LEADER IN THE WHOLE UNIVERSE AND YET NOBODY LISTENS TO HIM ANYMORE!
Aaah, TDM - the fine art of politicing (is that a word?) Notice how he did not say he did not do, but that they did not find anything. But then, after 22 years, he's like a father figure,
ReplyDeletesort of. You know ... like father has his wrongdoings but you kinda look the other way ... well, cos he's your dad. And you kinda accept it as long as you have a roof over your head, hot meals on the table and pocket money. You kinda know you can't smart talk him or he'll lock you up in your room. Kinda glad you've moved away from home but still miss him in some funny illogical ways. Guess with dad you kinda know where you stand, no play play.

ReplyDeleteThe fact is .. Tun Det mmg best, i adore him
ReplyDeleteIf you guys can't see all that Dr M has done, let alone appreciate them, that's your shallowness, that's your problem...
ReplyDeleteGod bless you Tun Dr Mahathir.
Mahathir assumes a cleaner than thou image. Only confesses to making a big mistake appointing Badawi.
ReplyDeleteBut never remorse for the judicial mess.
Operation Lalang was to me an efficient way of dousing the fire that seemed to be threatening at the time. But the mistake he made then was not arresting the one man he now seems to support who unsheathed his keris and threatened to bathe it with Chinese blood.
He covered up BMF.
He covered up the Bank Negara Forex Fiasco.
He covered up The loss suffered on the collapse of the tin commodities market.
He covered up Rahim Thambi Chick's alleged paedophile conduct and he should answer for Lim Guan Eng's incarceration.
He favoured a few businessmen over others.
Halim Saad, The guy who took over MAS, a whole lot of others who can never explain their wealth.
What he did to Anwar. Still nothing proven! The court that found him guilty was a bloody joke and will remain so until it cleanses itself. Yes, I do not think simple apologies alone is enough to redeem the courts their lost honour and prestige. They got to unshackle themselves from all the old injustices vented out by them first.
As for Zaid, it would appear what ever he is doing are just quick fixes, not so much to put right wrongs, or to give a fresh new coat of paint on tainted institutions. It has more to do with rescuing UMNO. And he better explain himself his role in the Muslim Lawyers Associaton's stance to support Mahathir then in 1988. Somehow, until that happens he may just not be the person qualified to move this apology agenda.
Remember in 1946 when the Colonial British Government wanted to form The Malayan Unions where all the powers of the Sultan Sultan and Yang di Pertuan Agong to be stripped completely powerless and Their authority were only limited to matters of Religion of Islam ( Heads of Islam in their respective states )?
ReplyDeleteThe Malays uprisings all over the Peninsular then prevented it becoming a reality. The sudden realization of the Malay that British’s plan did not guarantee the future of the Malays who are the rightful owners of The Mother Land, really inspired and steamed up their emotion to the hilt and produced result.
That was entirely the affair of the Malays .Others were fence sitters, including those Indian Muslim and mamak who preferred to be call Pakistanis as the got better treatments from British compared to the Malays..(I am not racist merely stating the reality exited then).
The new constitution and new agreement between all Raja Raja Melayu were drafted accepted and sealed after the British retracted and abandoned The Malayan Unions (.of cause, there were objections from radical Malays. They objection mainly on citizenship status of the immigrants. and they have separate aspiration , ideology and better agenda for the Malays .Some had been influenced by Sukarno to fight the British and some by the communist.
However, what the British failed to do to the Malays on Malayan Unions , Tun M almost succeeded in it with the support of his UMNO baru .His idea similar to the British to strip the power or the Raja Raja through amendments of the constitution, to create Malayan -Union typed of administration. If not a few who dare to challenge and resist him., he would have claim 100% success ! .
Our country is difference from others. This is because our Nationhood foundations is also difference. That is why we have the constitution but yet we put the Agong and Majlis Raja Raja ‘above’ the constitution .We have the “exclusivity clause” in the constitution for the rights of the Malay rulers and rights of the Malays. All this rights is sealed in the “peti besi and the keys to this peti besi is hold by the Malay Rulers” phrase borrowed from KU LI .
Please respect our constitution. Our king is not constitutional monarchy neither absolute monarchy.
Fore those we are loyal and love this country and thinking no where else to go, should together protect the constitution. Even during oaths taking , all the MPs and Ministers are swearing to protect the constitution and not to amend it.
To those” concerned citizens” mentioned by Tun M, I have this to say don’t show your ‘concern’ too much on the constitution as your reason is very glaring . Your intention is to find fault for justifications to amend further the constitution again until it renders useless and turn the country republic!
Latest news just received at this time of posting . In Trengganu about 60000 gathers at Kuala Trengganu airport to welcome home DYMM.. Dualat Tuanku !a
When that old man sacked Saudara Anwar Ibrahim, it was like the Titanic hitting the iceberg.
ReplyDeleteAll problems in UMNO were started by this old man.
Give him a mirror.
Dear Ena,
ReplyDeleteZaid has put unnecessary pressure on himself. The apology proposal has even been rejected by his colleagues in Cabinet. Zaid should have proposed a re-visit of the issue. It's been 20 years and people forget a lot of things, and even Zaid seems to have forgotten what he had said then.
I suggest all new brooms to take it easy. No rush. Think carefully of what you want to do. Weight the pros and cons. Jangan gopoh. There is such thing as a honeymoon period*.
* The honeymoon period should be 1 days. One of Pak Lah's problem was that NST gave him a year-long honeymoon.
Tq.
TDM what was your hidden motive in orchestrating that Tun Salleh Abbas was sacked?

ReplyDelete"I did not support Tun Salleh sacking: Zaid'
By SHAHANAAZ HABIB
QUOTE '...He said back in 1988 when he was the Muslim Lawyers Association president, he (Zaid) had only said that according to the Constitution, since Tun Hamid Omar was second in line and because the judiciary's number one (Salleh) could not chair the Tribunal against himself (Salleh), it was therefore legal for the number two (Hamid) to chair that Tribunal.
Zaid said that while the appointment of Hamid was legal, it was nevertheless morally wrong for Hamid to have accepted the post of the Tribunal chairman as this represented a conflict of interest as he (Hamid) would gain from Salleh's dismissal......
I don't recollect ever having said that the grounds of dismissal were fair or just. In fact, I say to you today that it was not right," he said, adding that he had in fact gone to see Salleh just days before the Tribunal commenced proceedings to express his regret over that what was happening. UNQUOTE
You see, this Maha Firaun Darthvader is 110% capable of having a selective memory and shooting from the hip. He will engage in 'terminological inexactitudiness (lies).' He will remember things others don't recall saying, thinking no one will check up or have the temerity to contradict him. But, his days are over, the times have changed.
The people and Zaid will not be cowed!!
I told you before, you cannot trust Firaun any further than you can throw him!!
Let history judge Dr M. To me, it's time to write him off from our book! Like it or not, he is just another smart, witty and crooked politician. Yes, he once had the power to rule and abuse the rule of laws in our country. I hope just historians document those. No doubt he has modernized Malaysia a lots, but at what cost? If you're so proud about the twin towers, please look at your kampong if you're a kampong boy! If you're not, you probably belong to one of middle income folks in the city. Alas, you guys are so small in numbers anyway! You probaby live with your parents or rent a pigeon hole in the city. How many of you has your name to your present dwelling? If you work in the city now and don't have parents in the city, you probably pay the rent which costs you arms and legs too. Wonder how much will it cost you to own a four wheel milo tin? Forget about owning a house in the city now! What else? Highways? Hmm..Do you know that Malaysia has the most expensive highways in the world in terms of toll rates and construction cost per mile! Halim Saad and his cronies at UEM can confirm you that! Also, look at our highways and developments in KL. I am not surprised if our grand kids will piss on our grave yards some day. So, that is what you get with a short-sighted modernization. Eventually the gap between the rich and the poor will be so wide that only God can save us all! Think about it.
ReplyDeleteMelayuBoston
Melayuboston,
ReplyDeleteYour grandchildren will piss on your grave without doubt...by the way you think.
Tun M is not a perfect person but i grown up during his tenure as PM...and i thank god for what he had done to Malaysia..even not 100% good but at least 80%...Look around us in KL the most of the services we using was planed during his time.
ReplyDeleteEven plp who anti him are using or enjoying benefit from what he has planned.
N most important until now when i traver oversea...plp know Malaysia and Dr Mahathir even he no longer our Premier.
God bless u and ur family.
