Just saying... prompted by all these calls of anti-Valentine's Day!
Here's an excerpt:
The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) is launching an anti-Valentine’s Day campaign Friday.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom said the campaign would be launched during a forum, "Awas - Jerat Valentine's Day" (beware of Valentine's Day trap) in Putrajaya Friday night.
Apart from members of the public, Jakim has also invited 1,000 students from higher learning institutes to participate in the discourse.
Jamil said the National Fatwa Council had, in 2005, decreed that Muslims should refrain from celebrating Valentine's Day, as it was not part of Islamic practices.
Today, The Council of Churches responded:"Valentine’s Day is a secular observance that is not celebrated religiously by churches in Malaysia or worldwide.
The council's general secretary Reverend Dr Herman Shastri said the National Fatwa Council had erred when it referred to Valentine’s Day as a Christian observance and has hurt the feelings of Christians in Malaysia.
“To suggest that Valentine’s Day is observed by Christians is unfair and misleading".Here's the thing: I'm no ulamak...but I can tell you that you won't go to hell if you celebrate Valentine's Day.
Besides...How is celebrating Valentine's Day sinful?
Can't buy cards? Can't buy flowers?
Duuh!
Guess your laki did not record today's khutbah jumaat.
ReplyDeleteCards? Flowers? Why not send them during Christmas or Easter? You don't celebrate Christmas and Easter, right?
Good luck to all pencegah maksiat in lowering the number of dumped babies 8-9 months from now, as well as preserving the sanctity of Maulidur Rasul.
Would be nice to have that mojito with you on Valentine's if that is o.k. with you...
ReplyDeleteOh BTW, would communicating with you over this blog be considered khalwat? Apparently chatting would...
ReplyDeleteCELEBRATING VALENTINE?
ReplyDeleteCan there be an earthly celebration of love
Even when there's no cute Cupid flying above
Or being dominated by modern commercial moves
There are no needs for any boxing but white gloves

Sat. 12th Feb. 2011.
It's just another day but the turbanned folks are just upset because they cannot sell flowers or chocolates.
ReplyDeleteBut the turbanned folks indulge in tongkat ali, urut batin, ubat kuat daily and that's okay??
Time to give the turbans a wash. It is clogging their brains. Or replace the turbans with a Road Safety Cone, which has a ventilation hole at the top to air their brains.
A GOOD MAN DOES NOTHING.
A couple of months after Feb every year, we never fail to see a surge of admission into our shelter homes for unwed pregnant teenagers...U have to be here to understand this.
ReplyDeleteI believe Jamil Baharom is on the right track when he said his department is going all out against the No Panties parties..
ReplyDeleteI believe that to ensure compliance that all women wear panties Jamil Baharom is going to conduct spot checks.
And the only way I know how to make sure a woman is wearing panties is to make her lift her skirts haha..
Bravo Jamil...and JAKIM. Associations of old men.. should pay more attention to their wives rather than to young lovers..
Valentine is a time to smooch to get to the 2nd or 3rd base as girls and women are excited to give in..

ReplyDeleteI wonder when will the twain ever meet if we keep poking fun at each others' values?

Cyber chatting against Islam, says Malaysian preacher
ReplyDeletePreacher and motivational speaker Mohammed Zawawi Yusoh told Harian Metro newspaper that people who engage in chats even on cyberspace were “vulnerable to temptation”.??It is akin to committing ‘khalwat’ (close proximity), which is an offence under the Islamic jurisprudence.??Khalwat and other offences under the Islamic law are enforced on the majority population with the help of vigilantes from religious affairs department. Malaysia is an Islamic nation.??They carry out raids, either on their own or on a tip off from family members of the likely offenders or from members of public.

WOW whatever JAKIM did WORKED:
ReplyDeleteJERUSALEM—In a surprise announcement with far-reaching theological implications, Jesus Christ The Nazarene, founder of Christianity and spiritual leader of nearly two billion people, revealed Monday that He has converted to “the one true religion” of Islam.

The controversial announcement has sent shockwaves through religious circles around the globe.
“Allah is the name of the One and Only God,” Christ said. “Allah has 99 beautiful names: He is known as The Gracious, The Merciful, The Beneficent, The Creator, The All-Knowing, The All-Wise, The Lord Of The Universe, The First, The Last and many more. He has revealed Himself unto Me through the holy words of the blessed Qur’an, and I have put My trust and faith in Him.”
As part of His conversion, Christ said He has taken a new name, Isa Ibn Maryam al-Salaam Christ Shabazz.
Christ, 33, is urging Christians worldwide to renounce His former religion of Christianity and join Him in embracing the Muslim way of life.
“People of all nations, in the past, you have heard Me say that whosoever shall believe in Me shall not die, but have eternal life,” Christ said. “But now, I say unto you, forget I ever said that. There is only one holy revelation of Allah, the Qur’an, which was dictated to the Prophet Mohammed, Praise Be Unto Him, by the Archangel Jibreel in the seventh century after I died.”

Let Jakim and Council of Churches argue their case professionally and backed with facts. One thing is sure: If Jakim is right i.e. Valentine day is indeed part of religious festivals of Christians (like X-mas), it is SINFUL for Muslims to celebrate it. On the other hand, if it is only a social festival (like Chinese New Year) it is alright for Muslims to celebrate it. I don't know abt the Christians. On my part as a Muslim, I certainly don't take offence if the Christians were to say that they can't celebrate Hari Raya coz it's against their religion. I will respect them & their religion. I wont embark on cries of old fashioned, suitable only for middle ages etc. Likewise, if a Hindu says he can't eat beef at my Raya party I won't feel slighted at all. I wont go round denouncing Hindu as impratical etc... It's none of my biz to meddle with their religion.
ReplyDeletefrm: tak kepoh
Today, Malaysia made the headlines again in the international scene. I view this with growing concern as intolerance escalates within our shores. Let me try to put perspective into this whole issue.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, to reject any religious view (whether Islam or other religions), or any other worldview, equates that one prefers another view of reality. We always make judgements about almost everything, in contrary with our views. Nobody in this world may dictate, “I don’t know if my views are right but I certainly know that you are wrong.” This is because we believe that other person’s view is wrong and ours is ultimately correct.
Secondly, no one can claim to provide an end on the explanation of the nature of reality. However, not knowing everything about reality should not be used as an excuse to believe anything we want to. No views in this world provide any comprehensive answer. All of us harbor some biases believing in what we do, but that is not a valid reason to believe it’s truth claims.
Thirdly and most important of all, all beliefs are not equal. Tensions between differing religious views have existed since the dawn of time. But here the need to exercise tolerance towards others’ beliefs does not mean that one has to champion the illogical idea that all views are equally true. Every religion, like all belief systems, are exclusive in the manner that it asserts its claims are true. There is nothing wrong in believing with what is true and false.
We should understand by now that real differences exist between all Malaysians (and the rest of the world) that tolerance is necessary and also a virtue. The definition on tolerance that we belief in is ‘being tolerance of all views’. To me, real tolerance is equated with ‘putting up with errors’. We should also come to terms that all beliefs are not made to be equal.
My fellow Malaysians, it is your call now.
