OMG!

My apologies!

I am not in the habit of posting, er, obscenities, those sort of things.

But I am a little bothered by this (see picture).

Aren't you?

Unless, of course, things have changed and a certain P-word is acceptable in normal lingo -- as in you wouldn't mind if I pepper my conversation with this word...

I'm not sure how long Pantai Towers have been changed to Pant.t Towers. I was driving along Lorong Bukit Pantai yesterday (Friday May 7), happened to slow down because the car in front of mine was slowing down, looked to the right and, gasp....saw it. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me -- or the morning sun, or...

Perhaps I am so old-fashioned, so conservative. So far behind time.

Heck...I maybe the only one to be somewhat shocked by the word blazing at the entrance of this apartment building.

This P-word is probably now so acceptable that it has been an accepted name of these residential units.

I remember these apartment units as Pantai Towers, located next to the Pantai Nursing Hostel on Lorong Bukit Pantai (off Jalan Bukit Pantai of THE Pantai Hills in KL).

They were pretty upscale those days. Still are, I imagine, because they are located around PANTAI (no name change yet) Hills and Bangsar.

Pantai Towers have been around for some 30 years, I believe.

Given that it's been renamed to Pant.t Towers, I guess these are no longer residential units. If they are, then the residents (and management) are absolutely fine with the new name.

So, do tell your mailman about this change of name!

Sign of the times...

If people are okay with it....then, I'd best mind my own business.

  12. hi all,

In kelantan dialect, "patat"(for "pantat") means bawah as in "patat kuali" (bottom of the pan) or "dok patat" (at the bottom).,.......not obscene.but this one....don't know....how could they miss it?

  13. bulibah,

in singapore and indonesia "p....t" means buttocks, or backside.

in peninsular malaysia, at least in most parts of the peninsular, "p....t" means the vagXna.

that's why M nasir, in his "mentera semerah padi" had the word "punggung" (in one of the verses) instead of p....t. and he is from singapore. he knew that would offend malays here.

  15. the phoenix foundation,

it's becoming clear to me that i'm in the comapny of very broadminded people...and with a sense of humour too.

i hope we can laugh when our kids repeat that word like nothing.

let's see...is there a Tamil equivalent of that word. how about a chinese equivalent? an english one?

these words would be acceptable if they are names of apartment buildings?

  16. habib,

actually, i did laugh when i saw the word on the board.
i do have a sense of humour.

i laughed more because of the fact that it's there for all and sundry to see... and life goes on. like, how did that happen?

of course, i didn't laugh for long. it was funny no more.

  17. Well, if we are to learn from our elders and our leaders, it would seem like this would be perfectly normal. You know referring to the way only our National leaders can when they turn around to show their buttocks in public..and of course their infamous Johnson clap, which only our Malaysians seem to know what it means.....I mean, in church in NZ there is this bloke who does the Johnson clap loud in keeping with the beat of the songs being sung....and there I go thinking he is weird....whereas no one there seems to think so...

    Bulibah,

Kat Sabah, I asked my maid why is she taking so long washing the plates etc?

"Saya cuci pantat kuali, hitam buk"..

Maybe they should reword as "PANTAT KUALI HITAM TOWERS", better eh?

Instead of putting that in your blog, isn't it pleasant to tell the persons involved to rectify the mistake, if there is? Why are you that fussy and wanted to be glamorous?

  25. anon@8:21PM,

i say...it's a pity that you are anonymous....

"isn't it pleasant to tell the persons involved to rectify the mistake, if there is?" -- have i got that right?

the persons involved in vandalising the signboard or the person involved as in the management?

you try to answer that question.

"Why are you that fussy and wanted to be glamorous?" -- let me not answer this-lah. :-)

  26. hmmm..

if it's okay that the word pantat be used on that signboard...i'm sure it's okay that when you fall ill, you get sent to the pantat medical centre...and perhaps, you can tell people you live in pantat hills.

and you don't mind your kids using that word, huh?
