More universities and schools had to be closed due to detection of the virus in these places.
Here's the Bernama report:
Two tertiary institutions, one faculty of a third, two secondary schools, seven industrial training institutes and a National Service Training Centre throughout the country were closed Wednesday and yesterday due to the detection of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) there.
The affected institutions, which will remain closed for one week, were the Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim, Perak, the Engineering Faculty of the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Nibong Tebal, Penang and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Jit San (A) in Bukit Mertajam, Penang which were all ordered closed for a week beginning today
In Kuantan, Pahang, the Kolej Yayasan Profesional Mara was also closed for a week beginning yesterday.
In PERAK, the 14,000 students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim were ordered to return home after 435 students were reported to be suffering from ILI.
The Health Ministry ordered the campus closed for a week beginning today until Aug 3. Only about 4,000 students of the university were staying in the hostels while the rest were staying outside the campus.
A spokesman from the Operations Room of the Perak Health Department said the department was awaiting the full report from the District Health Office to determine the number of students affected and whether there was any increase in the number of cases.
"Currently, we are still investigating the blood samples taken from the affected students to determine whether they were positive of influenza A (H1N1)," he told Bernama when contacted Wednesday.

This is worrying. When people start dying, especially through local transmission. Let us pray it does not get worse.
ReplyDeleteIf social distancing is implemented, the economy will be further hit.
Please take all precautions and everyone has to play his part.
Cheers

Salam Kak Aina,
ReplyDeleteDo you wonder why the most common cases happen at either institutions of higher learning or schools and not at other places such as offices or factories.
Would you do us a favour by initiating an investigative reporting?

ReplyDeleteminta tuan blog follow blog saya :)
ReplyDeleteWe are going to face a serious health crisis if the H1N1 situation deteriorates further.Be prepared for more bad news. The public should take all precautions and academic institutions should adhere to the instructions of the health ministry.
ReplyDeleteThe report of Orang Asli children coming down with this bug is scaring and ought to be viewed seriously. These Orang asli village I understand is isolated and in a remote area away from urban dwelling.
It is indeed mind bogling how the virus got into this isolated population. The fact that the flu bug can access into this isolated population only indicates that we are aganst one of the deadliest superspreading bug for the first time in history. This flu bug I believe is far dangerous than the Spanish and Hong Kong Flu put togather.
Stay away from crowded places and is advisable to avoid social events.Whatever you do make sure you wash your hands with soap and water frequently. It is time to stay indoor and buildup ones your immunity. Those who show symptoms get medical help and please stay home for haven sake.
The question of wheather the bug could be a kind of biological experiment gone wrong or a deliberate release into the public canot be ruled out.
It is simply beyond the scientist perception that 3 types of flu viruses( avian, swine and human)could join forces to merge as H1N1.
If this is natural as calimed by some then why has this not taken place during the early days when our knowledge of animal husbandry, medical science and public health were at a rudimentary level.
Birds, animals (pigs) and humans were living in close association those days.It was such a conducive environment, how come we did not hear or read of viruse outbreak of this nature.
Now a days if one is equiped with the knowledge of bio-enginneering one can easily insert, remove or even reorganise the genetic components of viruses in the lab to give rise to a new virus strain.
Whatever said I still believe this particular deadly H1N1 virus strain originated from a vaccine testing laboratory. If it is not from the lab then be prepared for many other deadly viruses which may emerge now and then from the natural surroundings.
It looks like South East Asia and the Asian countries will be kept busy with this outbreak which may even cause a big dent in their respective economies.Do you smell a rat here?

I had a sudden attack of dizzy spells, which later turned out to be vertigo. However the next day, my son developed high fever and off we went again to have him checked at the nearest hospital.
ReplyDeleteJust normal external checking, he was given cough syrup and paracetamol and told not to worry too much.
That was one week ago, fever went on for 3days and now coughing.
OMG, how then can we, as parents know if what he had was merely the common flu? After the 3rd death case, can be very worrying!!
