Decision On Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau By-elections Tomorrow

The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting tomorrow to discuss the holding of by-elections in the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in Perak and Bukit Selambau state assembly seat in Kedah,.

The EC will look into whether it is possible to hold the by-elections simultaneously.

EC Chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof was quoted by the NST as saying that the EC would have to be satisfied that a state assembly seat or Parliamentary seat was lawfully vacant.

“For the Bukit Gantang seat...since the MP has passed away, it is definitely vacant but Bukit Selambau is a different issue and we need to gather detailed information and documents to make a decision.

“If we can establish that the Bukit Selambau seat is vacant, we will go ahead with the by-election. If the seat is not vacant, then the elected representative will remain,” said Abdul Aziz after handing out certificates to EC staff involved in the Kuala Terengganu by-election, in Kuala Terengganu last night.

The Bukit Gantang Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of PAS MP Roslan Shaharum on Monday, due to a heart attack, while Bukit Selambau state assemblyman V. Arumugam from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) was said to have tendered his resignation on Sunday.

Abdul Aziz said the EC cannot just accept the Kedah Legislative Assembly Speaker’s statement that a vacancy existed for the Bukit Selambau state seat and go ahead with a by-election.

“We have to look at the issue from various perspective and not just make a decision based on assumption or because somebody had asked to do so. The EC will dispense its duties professionally based on the procedures, information and according to the law,” he said.

Nuraina says: Come on out, come on out wherever you are, Arumugam so that they can verify that you really do not want to be a wakil rakyat, and for a by-election to be held.

Politics and working for the rakyat is not for everyone. I understand.

If you are being held against your will, let's pray that you can escape from your captors and come on home, safe and sound. And live to tell your tale.

Meanwhile, everyone's raring to go. According to the Star, "a tussle has already erupted between component parties namely Umno and MIC as well as DAP and PKR while the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has proposed that one of its Internal Security Act detainees be fielded."

two by-election that might be held simultaneously.but i'm looking forward for the by-election in Perak since i'm from Perak and the by-election there gonna determine on which political party that are more trusted and reliable by the public to take over Perak.

on the by-election in Kedah,it's a by-election that gonna prove if BN influences there is still alive and kicking or just seems dead.

    may the best candidate win!

well...that's what (by)elections are for...to choose the people's representative, who the (majority of the) people want..

    thank you.

The Hindraf jokers are talking nonsense by proposing a jailbird to stand as MP. How will a jailbird be of service to his electorate? They should think again even if the law allows suspected criminal to sit for office.

As for the fighting between possible candidates from PKR,DAP UMNO, MIC, MCA etc, they should concentrate on the job expected of a Member of Parliament.

Is the job to please the Party of the electorate? Is it a quest for the leaders or the people living in the electorate?

The whole essence of being an honourable Member of Parliament has no more meaning at all.

No one respects a YB anymore, and a YB just has no time to service his constituency any more without fear or favour.

Well, I guess the Constitution has no more book value in these modern days and soon, we shall be fighting each other, just to outdo political imaginations.

    A GOOD MAN DOES NOTHING.

  4. A farce! That's how I would describe the political situation in Perak. First we heard stories of politicians who went on a bungee jumping spree.

Now we have another Perak politician mysteriously missing. Now, Mulder and Scully would probably love this case. Totally X-File-class material I tell you.

Little green guys from Planet Saturn (or one of its moons) kidnapped V Arumugan eh?

Now Perakians would probably have to face a double by-election. It is going to be one hell of a battle, one which both sides can not afford to lose, and like in all wars, it's the people in the middle that become the unwilling victims.

UMNO and BN must learn from its previous defeats in Permatang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu. A simple lesson really, IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SUPPORT YOU, THEN YOU MUST SUPPORT THE PEOPLE.

No more idiotic stunts such as the 'foul-smelling' IJN takeover and the superfluous LCCT Labu.

JUST GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY BLOODY WANT!

They want inflation minimized, a stringent check on the rising prices of goods, not having to pay for using facilities such as highways, cheap transportation, minimum wage system, efficient public service, no more shooting up the price of petroleum

They want a government that is serious in controlling the prices of commodities that village folks thrive on such as rubber, laws that favor the people and not bloodsucking capitalists, reform in the automotive tariff so that people who make only RM1000 a month don't have to pay RM400 a month for a bloody Kancil! And oh yes,

GIVE US A BLOODY CLEAN AND TRANSPARENT GOVERNMENT!

If BN learns to fight for the people and not against them, then may be there will be hope after all.

  7. Hai Nuraina.
It is said that BN will lose in the Perak by-elections because many Perakians are extremely upset with Dato Seri Najib.
I hope BN can still find a way to win the by-election.Otherwise dont waste money right?
Just let PKR replace another Adun..I know..wrong attitude but why waste our resources and energy and suffer shame right?
We should be focusing on the economic issues right now!Yeah..what a cliche.

Rumour has it his 1st wife who has been separated from YB Arumugam for many years is aware of "2nd wife". God knows & only they both know why they NEVER divorced. So as years go by "2nd wife" is seen in public and deemed accepted by all and sundry as the Official wife. Of course, for Non-Muslims, bigamy or poligamy is an Offence. So I'm not sure if YB Arumugam married his "2nd wife"? If he did without divorcing his 1st wife, then that's an offence. If he didn't, then the "2nd wife" is merely his mistress and their poor kids illegitimate. Of course YB Arumugum had taken his "2nd wife" to official functions and to the Istana so those are definitely acts unbecoming for Tuanku's YBs and State EXCO members.
As to offences committed, we're not sure if he has made the necessary disclosures and declarations when he submitted his Borangs to be nominated as Calon, subsequently as EXCO member and so forth. It would have been an offence to have declared his "2nd wife" as his wife as that would have breached various disclosure laws, if in fact she's only YB's girlfriend/mistress. Also by admitting she's the Official wife, meant he's admitting to committing a crime, as Bigamy is an offence! Either way poor YB Arumugam is cornered and the decent thing is to resign and shy away from public glare! Sigh.
Rumour also has it that since 1st wife and YB had separated, YB Arumugam has probably forgotten to be generous in the maintenance dept, domestically speaking? Since she's still 1st wife, YB Arumugam should not flaunt the "2nd wife"and forgets the "pocket money"...so the rumours go. Only God knows and all those actors know and they're keeping mum for now? There are kids to protect...
Hence, the by- election! Bye bye...

    Sincerely,
    St.Patric @St.Valentine's Day
