Karpal Demands Nazri's Resignation

DAP chairman Karpal Singh has demanded the resignation of Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Aziz for misleading the Dewan Rakyat and the people.

He said Nazri had maintained that information on the pension received by the judges sacked during the 1988 crisis had never been disclosed to the public.

"It is indeed difficult to comprehend how Nazri could say that the provision for the pension to these judges was not privy to the public and that for 20 years, no one knew that pension had been paid," he said in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (Thursday).

He said the The Star on Oct 7, 1988 had quoted the report of the five-member judicial tribunal which among others stated that the then Yang di-Pertuan Agong had consented for two of the three judges to be given pension.

The two judges were Tan Sri Wan Suleiman Pawan Teh and Datuk George Seah.

Tun Salleh Abbas was tried separately. Three other judges -- Tan Sri Mohamed Azmi Kamaruddin, Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdoolcader and Tan Sri Wan Hamzah Mohamed Salleh -- had been reinstated.

The 140-page tribunal report was made public by the then Attorney-General Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman on the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

On Nov 6, Nazri said in the Dewan Rakyat that all six judges were not sacked but advised to take early retirement. He later admitted that that was not the case as upon checks, he knew they were given pension on the basis of compassion.

  1. I'm not going to defend Nazri. He should have checked his facts before opening his big mouth. He's gotten away too many times with being trigger happy. But asking him to be sacked for his stupid statement is a little ridiculous, and coming from someone as big as Karpal, it is even more so. Karpal should be careful when dealing with an idiotic situation cos he might end up looking like the idiot.

Jot it down in your notebook and move on. And don't forget to thank Nazri. Without him, would we all know how much the judges got? Not that I agree with the government breaking the word Zaid had given (he promised the judges that the amount of ex-G will not be made known) before Zaid resigned ... I just think that we should have been transparennt from the start.

Its just an overlook on Nazri's part, he made amends and nobody got hurt, so i can't understand the need to ask for his resignation.Of so many, speaking as a non-BN supporter, Nazri is one of the better ones left who does act gentlemanly many a time. Moreover, no "victims" are complaining. Karpal should ask those heavily tainted VVIPs guys to resign over more serious damaging issues.

The Opposition has demanded and objected and protested and all sorts of things la. What's the success rate? Anyone? They simply ignore and deny everything without any consequences. Don't waste time anymore. They won't go away nor stop voluntarily. Only way is just to simply extract them like a rotten tooth.

Apologies to you Nuiraina in advance

If it were Singapore, such comment from Rocky Bru would be dead many times over.

I don't think Karpal looks like an idoit with such action. In fact, if such action would be carried, Nazri would be dead by 13th GE

Think of former malaysia Information Minister

If it were Singapore, Karpal would be made bankrupt, have to sell his books at the LRT station and die south of the border.
