At the Shah Alam court, RPK's lawyer, Malik Imtiaz succeeded in obtaining a release order from detention under the Internal Security Act (ISA) via his habeas corpus application.
That is good news. We are all elated.
Here's the Star report:
The judge ruled that the Home Minister had acted outside his jurisdiction when he issued the two-year detention order under Section 8(1) of the ISA.
The High Court also allowed the blogger and Malaysia Today editor to be brought to court to be released today.
He was detained for a second time under the ISA on Sept 12.
On April 11, 2001, Raja Petra along with 10 other activists were detained under the ISA for allegedly plotting to overthrow former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Raja Petra was released 52 days later.
Shouldn't release that early..better keep him inside until next raya

I say dont kacau Kak Nuraina please, it is disrespectful and we don't like it. Ok?
no one interfered with the court to have him released. emm..what if the detention was ruled as lawful? surely the response would be that someone has interfered to have him detained. suda boleh baca the minds of these people. justice and fair only when it suits their interest.
ReplyDeleteHey wait a minute! You mean the same court system that acquitted Razak Baginda now RELEASED RPK?
ReplyDeleteNOW! That says a lot about the Malaysian judiciary being impartial, unjust et cetera.
Kak Aina, to tell you the truth I personally despise RPK and considers him a nuisance in our multiracial and multicultural harmony, but when the court decided there was no ground to detain RPK, I respect the decision unequivocally.
By the way, I had the pleasure of meeting your late father once. Allahyarham WAS A BRILLIANT MAN. He could talk or write about the most mundane or dull issue and make it look fascinating. A true genius with words. I extend my sincere condolences to you.
Al-Fatihah to Allahyarham.
