The words of Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, immediately after the results were known.
"Today, five months after we met with the biggest general election loss in our history, Umno has suffered a landslide loss at Permatang Pauh. This despite the mobilization of the entire leadership and resources of a party that has held the machinery of government without pause for 50 years.
This despite a campaign that embarrassed and divided the nation with its ugliness.
"It is time to face the music: it is we who have been buried."
And the rest of his statement:
Our leadership is rejected by the rakyat and, moreover, is rejected by our own members. BN’s vote count was less than the number of Umno members in the constituency.
- Within and among our component parties we ran a poorly coordinated and listless campaign against a motivated Opposition.
- What scraps of credibility the Prime Minister and his Deputy had left after March 8 are gone.
Today’s report card, delivered to a Prime Minister who is accountable also as liaison chief of Umno Penang and chairman of BN, is impossible to hide: he does not have the minimal credibility needed to run the country day by day, let alone to take it in the new directions we need to go in a complex world. He may not have the credibility needed to keep the country together. This dangerous situation cannot continue, and it will not.
I appeal to the members of Umno and of BN’s component parties to stand by Umno in our hour of crisis, and to take a sober historical perspective. The people of Malaysia and along with them, Umno’s ordinary members, have found their democratic voice. They demand leadership that can be trusted to unite our people, to restore confidence in our institutions, and forge a clear national direction. Today is proof that this wave cannot be held back. Umno must change. We must begin by renewing our party leadership. I am confident that by December, we shall."
Now, wasn't this the same kind of message that was sent before the March 8 general election and in the aftermath of Umno's (and Barisan Nasional's) devastating performance?

same article contents for another losses..
ReplyDeletewe all have to face the music.this time is the time for opposition to rise.no question about that.If BN wanna survive, they must do something and reconstruct the organization for A to Z.
Actually BN isnt that bad.what makes BN look bad because there are people in BN that creates BN to be "fragile" - ready to be attacked and manipulated.that's why.
futhermore, rakyat now are "angry" and "dissapointed" with the ruling govt thus the support from rakyat turns to the opposition.
Pak Lah and Najib must now "balik kampong and tanam jagong". So appropriate with Pak Lah's tag line "pertanian adalah perniagaan".
ReplyDeleteThese 2 jokers has lost all credibilities. So pls berambos and let the better man take over!

Iis obvious that the part about been buried refers to some obnoxious loudmouth SIL. This guy is like some turd that just won't flush down.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI've posted this in a no. of blogs. So, my apologies for posting it again here, as I feel that the BN and PR leadership, and your readers, should reflect on this open letter from Dr Syed Alwi of Singapore, whose opinion resonates with what the Malay Malaysians generally feel, though a big majority of them dare not articulate it due to fear of being branded as traitors to their race and country. Sad to say that the UMNO leadership is still playing politics based on race and religion, though admittedly some other parties/individuals are also as gulity.
"THE MALAYSIAN MALAY
by Dr Syed Alwi of Singapore
Dear Editor,
As you know, I am an avid watcher of Malaysian affairs. I must confess that lately, Malaysia appears to be failing. Not a day passes by without more events that clearly highlight Malaysia ’s race-religion fault-line. If things keep going this way, I fear for Malaysia ’s future.
Today, schools in Singapore celebrate Racial Harmony Day. I can
visibly see the joy in the children’s faces as they wear their ethnic
costumes and have fun together at school. But in Malaysia - even the right to choose a religion has become a sensitive, national issue. No doubt, there are many in Malaysia who hate my liberal views on Islam, family included. But I will say what I must say openly. I have come to the conclusion that Malaysia cannot progress any further without first addressing fundamental questions regarding its identity and soul.
I remember the days when we can laugh at Lat’s cartoons on everyday Malaysian life. But sadly, the Islamic tide has polarised Malaysians. Some people ask why I should bother about Malaysian affairs since I am a Singaporean. May I remind Malaysians that it was Tan Siew Sin who once said that Singapore and Malaysia are Siamese Twins. Should Malaysia go down - it would hurt the region tremendously. Especially Singapore ..
Where do you think Malay apostates would head for if Lina Joy loses her case? Singapore of course! I find the Malaysian Malay to be very under-exposed. For them, it’s all Islam and the NEP and everything under the sun would sort itself out. I am sorry to say this - but Islam and the NEP may be the cause of the undoing of the Malaysian Malay.
There is nothing wrong with religion or affirmative action. But, like
everything else in life, they must be taken in moderation and with a pinch of salt. A little doubt is good. Unfortunately in Malaysia ,
emotions over Islam have overcome reason. What we see today is the result of the NEP and Islamisation policies of the past thirty years or so.
No one owes Malaysian Malays a living. Let me assure you that should Malaysia fail - the Malaysian Malay will suffer enormously. And rightly so. After all - they have been pampered with all sorts of goodies over the years. They cannot now expect more goodies. Perhaps the day of reckoning for them, is near. Whatever it is, Malaysia had better wake up to the realities around her. The globalised world of the 21st century has no NEP to offer the Malaysian Malay. And humans cannot live by religion alone.
Regards,
Dr Syed Alwi."
salam nuraina, terlebih doa tuk bapak nuraina, semoga dier segera sembuh. amin.
ReplyDeleteUMNO nie tknk belajar hasil dpd PRU yg lalu, hasil tsunami PRU yg lalu.. knp? sombong? ego melampau? atau dh korup sgt.. semoga mereka cepat sedar..
take care
Ina, its hard to straighten a dog's tail. The Be End fellas never learn. Now they will say that People are not matured enough in making decision...
ReplyDeleteUMNO cannot change, because it doesn't have the will to change. They have no experience in real open dialogues and power sharing, thus they don't know what it's like to open up. The Opposition is experiencing that and what we see is that if you involve the Rakyat, you're even more powerful, because there's a shared ownership on how we want to run things.
ReplyDeleteUMNO only knows the old way, the feudalistic, patronage way. They are living in the 21st century, but their mindset is still very much in the 16th century. They may have the money and live in big houses, but they are not 'freed'. I pity them.

This is not just a victory for PR and DSAI. It is also a victory for justice and equality, a victory of good over evil.
ReplyDeleteEven if the PR candidate is Tan Ann Wah or Anwamurugam instead of DSAI the result would be the same.
PR, towards a better Malaysia!
to reform, the first thing UMNO needs to do is kick out that flip flip clown and the murder suspect!
ReplyDeleteThey will never learn cos they are too busy to ensure that they and their families stay in power. They do not have the interest of the nation at all. If they did, they would have resign and moved on but here they are trying to convince us about sodomy and not to question their decision and not respecting the rule of law. They do not care what the opinion of the people, Pak lah say tak popular tak apa ma. He is still in power and that counts.
ReplyDeleteso Anwar kick him out of the PM post and return to the independence of the judiciary, give us IPCMC and make ACA independent!!!! Anwar you need to do this 3 thing first. If not we will kick you out faster than what it took you to come back to parliament.
When will UMNO learn?..Will UMNO learn? sigh..
ReplyDeleteItu lah akibatnya bila pemimpin lupa berpijak dibumi nyata. Itu lah pesan orang tua kita yang ada kebenaran nya bahawa orang tamak selalu rugi dan sebab nila setitik rosak susu satu belanga. Jangan sesakali menginaya dan memfitnah orang.I am disgusted and disappointed with the present leaders -don't know whether we can call them leaders. Cerita dinasor tu pun patut dihayati dan ambil lah pengajaran dari nya. SALAM
ReplyDeleteHe will sleep through KU LI's scathing attack. This fler is damn thick skin or is a moron
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteFrom Malaysiakini’s 5.30 posting, it says that “Malaysia Today blocked! Order from MCMC” except via Jaring.
Site is accessible via IP address http://202.75.62.114/2008/ and web address http://mt.harapanmalaysia.com/2008/
Hope this helps. Regards
have you got any remarks on this BN lost at Permatang Pauh from THE BN LEADER himself, Pak Benggap Lah?
ReplyDeletethat would be nice to know his view and blaming on the weather for the poor results.
also remarks from his Monkey Boy, THE KJ of Rembau Babboon too. you wouldnt want to miss that update in your coming write-up!
Ku Li cerita je banyak. Macam bagus sangat nak cakap pasal orang. Katak tak sedar diri dari zaman S46. Kalau hebat sangat mana pergi S46? Melingkup jugak.
ReplyDeleteactually, UMNO/BN will never change as rightly said. Period! All they see is $$$$ sign! Do you for once really believe they care about the rakyat??? You must be sleeping also! Honestly speaking, MCA, MIC, Gerakan are all after the same thing that UMNO wants, ie. $$$$$. dpm and sil is simply taking away people's business left right and centre. Go ask the people at Subang airport! Stopping Malaysia Today will not stop the rakyat from taking "revenge" on them come next election (which we definitely cannot wait THAT LONG.... ANOTHER 4 YEARS IS A NO-NO). So, rakyat, please BLAST THEM OFF FROM THE FACE OF MALAYSIANS, I BEG OF YOU!!!!
