Big Bad Mistake, Azalina

Said Elizabeth Wong, the Selangor Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment exco chairman and Law Heng Kiang, the Penang Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee chairman.

They were responding to
the Tourism Ministry's decision to terminate all tourism MoUs and the state tourism councils.

It will not only have adverse effects on the industry but also the the national economy, they agreed.

Wong, a blogger , said the decision was "regrettable".

It would be foolhardy, she stressed, for the central government to continue sidelining Selangor as well as Penang, Perak, Kelantan and Kedah, which are all premier destinations.

"Selangor is one of the top destinations in the nation and the first stop for most international tourists," she said in a statement.

Wong said the State had been looking forward to work with the tourism ministry.

She said Selangor accounted for some 30 per cent of the national GDP and the move could jeopardise the national economy as well as the industry.

Yesterday, Minister Azalina Othman Said said all funds for tourism in the five opposition-ruled states would be directly channelled into the accounts of the states' Tourism Action Councils which will no longer be chaired by the State Executive Councillors in charge of tourism.

The RM1mil annual budget for each state which used to be channelled to the state financial officers when the states were ruled by the Barisan Nasional (BN), will from now on be channelled through federal funds.

Law described the move as "unwise" and urged the ministry to seriously reconsider it.

He said it would bring about a spiral-effect causing losses to the people and the whole industry in the country, including Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters.

"In the short term, it may affect Penang's tourism industry but in the long-term it will definitely affect the Malaysia's tourism industry," said Law.

(Source: The Sun online and The NST online)

Now isn't that a bad move? So mean. It's punishing those states that fell to the Opposition.

When you punish these states, you are really punishing the people.

How to redeem Barisan Nasional like this?

It's akin to telling the rakyat (the Malay expression): "Hah, baru rasa sekarang."

That's UMNO for you. Anyway, they have learnt from the Master: Mahatir. He has punished the people of Terengganu after they withdrew support from him and gave the money to Idris Josoh whom he has blamed recently. In UMNO culture, you either pussyfoot them or you are an enemy. Thank God that UMNO will never rise again. They can't afford to overwhelm the Pakatan Rakyat momentum. Dear Noraina, do you know that Pakatan's support has risen to 70%? It will be a clean sweep. Anyway, let her warm the seat. Sooner than later, Pakatan will show them door through the blackdoor. Why should we give them respite when they are stealing our money and refusing us to use it? I can't imagine our money being managed by appointed UMNOPutras. Sheesh!

  2. I am beginning to really dislike this Azalina. She does have a loud mouth though and really nothing to show in terms of achievements except for that mad idea about setting up a sports facility in the UK for Malaysian sportsman and woman. If the Tourism Ministry thinks that it can get away by punishing the rakyat in the PAS-DAP-PKR state government, she should seriously think again. The consequence in the next PRU13 for UMNO will be devastating indeed.

  3. This is an example of a Minister who can't separate partisan politics with national interest.

Azalina is not a greenie Minister. I find, however, that she hasn't grown in stature as a Minister and pliticians.
Perhaps AAB should lessen her burden and stop forcing her to take charge of the cybertroopers.

That burden has clearly made her less effective and also less efficient as a Minister.

BN being siLuncai, let them continue this bully (old) technique of theirs, and I can bet you, by GE13, BN will be history!!
Don't they have any no-stupido among them??

I just can't understand. Most of the blogs have pointed to the fact that it's a big mistake. It doesn't take a political genius to see that. It just take a rational, logical person to see the point. It saddens me that our politicians seemed to have put their emotions/agenda above rationality and the good of the nations. They are elected to serve the nation and the people, but for now, I can only see disappointments over their unprofessional product. Common sense? It is just no longer common amongst our leaders/politicians. Sad.....Extremely sad!

BN - I'ld say UMNO (and not the other kowtow'ing component parties) have not learnt their lesson and have not changed an iota.
Withholding monies as if it's their own money to give or withold - to be bestowed upon the favoured few or dispensed to obedient states as and when they like.
Arrogance and total disregard for the nation's well being. With all the post election reflection and analysis, this is the type of response the govt has decided upon?
Well, well, it would seem we need a total change in govt - at the federal level, to knock some sense into these people.

  10. My friends were staunch supporters of BN. Even during this years March election, they voted Barisan, but not any more. They said that come the next GE in 4 or 5 years time, they will vote anybody but BN. The way people like Azalina and Mohd Mohd Taib responded to the 12th GE results finally opened their eyes to the real BN. Looks like BN has learned nothing from the peoples' verdict. The Federal Government has now been reduced to a Federal Government of only 8 states. Perhaps they should also not collect taxes from these 5 states? I feel sorry because I was a staunch supporter of BN too.

I wonder whether Azlina obtained her diplomas/degrees from some fly by night corporation.

Thats the Quality of BN ministers and Style, nothing surprising. They did it in Trengganu with the OIL monies, this is paltry sum.

ASSlina should be reminded that her salaries come from TAXPAYERS and it is her DUTY to bring in tourist Ringgit to Malaysia otherwise the Ministry should be culled. Anyway difficult to do PROJECTS in opposition backyard, kena corruption charge later.

Notice a simple style or pattern, they do things out of revenge and not common sense, not realising they are digging deeper graves for themselves. Let it be frens and we will see the RESULTS in GE13........

Such is the mentality of small minded people, calling for boycotts, and cutting off funds from these five states.

first she pours her wrath out at bloggers, now this unwise vendetta-driven tourism policy against States won by the opposition.

lesson one for Azlina: the people or rakyat has spoken. they have spoken firmly and it would be unwse to insult or penalise the the people for excercising their rights against the crony infested, corrupt testicle carrying Barisan Nasional.

lesson two for Azlina: an old Asian proverb states: "if you are not prepared to see what you ought to see, what you are not prepared to see will lead you to the longkang of no return."

mark my words, the malaysian people have reached zero tolerance with mental-midget politicians that has the average intellingence of a "kacang kuda". they are no longer going to cium the tangan of puteri yang makan duit rasuah.

vindictive politics belong to the realm of "orang minyak" and "mat rempits." wake up and come to terms that the rakyat has come of age and will not submit to Umno or barisan intimidation and muscle flexing.

it may have worked in the times of hang tuah, but it is now the age where the rakyat will send puteri bodohs to the river of no return. Azlina, bangun tidur dan sila minum kopi tongkat Aminah. masa dah sampai untuk keraja cik....

if you continue to operate in this former Umno/Barisan bully mode, you will wake up only to find both Umno and Barisan completely wiped out by the rakyat.

The RM1mil annual budget for each state ...will from now on be channelled through federal funds."

Does that mean the 5 states will still get funding from the Federal, but through the states' Tourism Action Councils instead of the State Executive Councillors. If that's the case, what's the big deal?

I only began approaching the alternative news after PRU12 and oh my, now I know how much I miss out on getting a balance news!!

No thanks to the events (I'm particularly irked by the racist demo in Penang which try to incite racial tension) and responses by the BN in the aftermath of PRU12, they had help to cemented my future vote to "Any Party Other Than BN" which in short, I called it "apot BN".

Pak Turuts and kaki bodeks are Pak Lah's strength now. How come Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek made a statement that the swing of votes during previous election was solely due to sudden swing of chinese votes...Is he crazy? Even layman can congak based on the detailed results of what happened in every states. How can he and Pak Lah just simply concluded that the malay votes are still strong??? Eg. look at Kedah or Shah Alam by simple judgement or the majority at Kelantan or Johor. This is the case of blind loyalty or boss just prefers yes man scenario. Pak Lah has tried but failed the trick of inciting Malays in Penang on DEB issue (also with Agong at Terengganu) but it seems Malays were confused because the fact that Malays were not favouring UMNO now or Pak Lah may confused himself because the feedback from his people seems wrong. Then now pak Lah instructed his so-called people with blind loyalty made personal attack on TDM. He asked TDM to stop making statements which may divide UMNO. I still remember how he made TDM like a pariah when TDM as negarawan negara was willing to start from bottom of UMNO just to give his opinion within rumahtangga UMNO....and now when TDM made the statements from outside he was shivering wildly. Is Pak Lah scared because of his inabality to counter the debate (which I tend to believe) or he thought UMNO members and Malays cannot think and judge properly about any allegations or rumour....As malay saying goes....Pak Lah takut dengan bayang-bayang sendiri....if he really UMNO fighter, he should answer, defend, tell the plan confidently on any issue either at UMNO or national level just like a true leader of our beloved Malaysia instead of still perasan terror like all Malays are behind him now.......
