Unprecedented!

That's all that I can say about the election results.

As of 1.11am -- the Opposition have taken Penang, Kedah and Selangor while Pas has retained Kelantan.
And according to unofficial results, Perak may go to the Opposition.

Indeed. The people have spoken.

Major casualties : Samy Vellu in Sungai Siput (he'd been incumbent since 1974), Shahrizat Jalil in Lembah Pantai (she was 3-term MP) against newbie Nurul Izzah Anwar, Zainudin Maidin in Sungai Petani, M. Kayveas lost in Taiping and Koh Tsu Koon in Batu Kawan.

Also Samy's deputy (in MIC) Palanivel lost his Hulu Selangor seat.

That means MIC's top two are down.

A vote against the BN Indian leaders.

In Rembau, Khairy Jamaluddin won against CikguBard. (Can't confirm the majority -- some said 114, then after recount 800, and now 5,000+).

And Mukhriz Mahathir won by a majority of 2,200 in Jerlun.

Well. What can I say.... overall, there were many ANGRY votes out there!
And that your vote did count. You better believe it! Because I know mine did.

Am watching TV3 (no choice) now at my relative's place. But no announcement yet that Selangor has fallen to the Opposition. Stunning ... reminds me of what Nurul Izzah wrote in her blog long long time ago, it is the beginning of all beginnings. For some who let atrophy set in, the end is near. They have themselves to blame for not being perceptive and for failing to see the writing on the wall.

I think the opposition took Perak as well. Negri BN had a bad scare. Wow, 5 states at one go. Imagine if Terengganu had been taken as well. Unprecedented indeed. The people have spoken.

    Ena,

I don't believe the sil wins fairly. I'm having deja-vu.

Yesterday I told myself that if this upstart looked like he lost, I bet he'd ask for a recount and then, he'd win.

Perhaps I'm not alone in thinking this...

Good Morning Ena, it's 4.30 am Sunday morning and I don't want to go to sleep yet! Have been following the election results on tv and net,..Amazing, to say the least! I can see from the lights from my neighbours that they have been up following the results too! There's a message in the results for all - for some, go reflect deeply what went wrong and make it right; for others this is the golden opportunity to prove yourselves and walk the talk: and for the rest of us, the people have spoken(eEven thouh it is probably less than 3/4 of the registered voters.?)It is also God's will and let's be thankful that democracy is very much alive in this country!

To the victors, syabas and tahniah. To the defeated, you are still part of this aspiring nation, so don't quit your good citizen role just yet. We are in this together...all the best to the new Parliament! Thank you voters...

Unprecedented indeed! It's like the rakyat have collectively agreed to respond to Rocky's appeal for "some shocks, please." And I'm over the moon...

Are we likely to see a by-election in the coming months in Permatang Pauh?

Nuraina, it was one heck of an election, and I still dont believe BN got a whacking. It's surreal. Who could have imagined Umno being whipped. I have been following every election intensely since the Seventies, and Umno was at the forefront of things. Anyway, this election showed one clear thing - Umno has lost the support of Malays, urban and rural. If they persist in their old ways, they are dead. Be that as it may, the next PM is Anwar Ibrahim. He is the man of the hour. He is everywhere. He is on CNN, he is on aljazeera, he is on BBC. And he has massive support among Malays, Chinese, Indians. Watch out for him in the next election.

I'm proud with the election result. A long way to go but Malaysian has spoken.

    Good luck and take care.
