Pak Lah's Pledge......

To resolve to strengthen Umno and the Barisan Nasional.

And to not resign as Prime Minister.

Here's the Bernama story:

PUTRAJAYA, March 9 -- Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has promised Umno supporters that he will continue to fortify and strengthen the party and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Speaking to about 1,000 party supporters at Seri Perdana, his official residence here, he also pledged to implement the coalition's election manifesto to make the country safe, peaceful and prosperous.

The Umno president said the presence of party supporters from various Umno branches in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor at Seri Perdana tonight had given him the strength to continue with the struggle for the people.

"We want to continue with our agenda for development to make sure that the people continue to enjoy the fruit of the nation's progress.

"I know it's not only you who supported me... there are many others out there who want to convey their support and I thank all of you for that," he said in his brief speech in front of his supporters here.

Earlier, when he arrived at Seri Perdana, Abdullah was greeted with thunderous claps and the shouts of "Hidup Pak Lah" (Long Live Pak Lah).

While stressing that he would not resigned as the prime minister, Abdullah said, on the contrary he would seek an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin tomorrow to take his oath of office as the prime minister.

Abdullah admitted that he had received a number of text messages from people who wanted to know if he would resign.

Abdullah said: "I don't know why the need for me to resign; our party won... although not with a two-third majority, we won (the election)."

He said he was not afraid of anyone, let alone those who call for his resignation, because he only feared Allah SWT.

Now, I'd say that the 1,000 Umno members don't represent the rest of the country.
BN lost heavy -- FIVE states in the hands of the Opposition and a simple majority in Parliament.

LIKE IT OR NOT, WE HAVE TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT HE WAS ELECTED BY FELLOWS M'SAINS TO LEAD THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION, SO BE IT.

ITS ALSO A FACT THAT TDM & THE UMNO WARLORDS KNEW UMNO IS AILING & CAN'T HEAL BY ITSELF.

BUT FOR THE FACT THAT TDM TO HAVE A PRESS CONFERENCE & ASK THE PPL TO PRESSURE HIM TO TENDER HIS RESIGNATION IS THE MOST IRRESPONSIBLE THING TO DO.

FOR THIS IS UMNO PROBLEM,LET UMNO ITSELF DECIDE WHO THEY WANT FOR A PRESIDENT & AS THE NEXT PM, WHETHER THROUGH AN EGM OR DURING THEIR NEXT GENERAL MEETING. LET THEIR SUPREME COUNCIL HANDLE THEIR OWN PROBLEM.

WE ALREADY ACHIEVED OUR OBJECTIVE, TO DENY THE COALITION A 2/3 MAJORITY. OUR NEXT MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO ASSIST THE ELECTED BARISAN RAKYAT CANDIDATES TO FULFILL THEIR OBLIGATIONS/PROMISES TO THE PPL IN THOSE 5 STATES.

SO DON'T GET THE PPL INVOLVE WITH UMNO INTERNAL PROBLEM...ITS NOT OUR FIGHT. AND IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL & GET SUCKED INTO THEIR DILEMMA... IT MIGHT LEAD TO A TERRIBLE SETBACK. FOR WE MIGHT NOT BE AWARE THERE COULD BE SOME UNSCRUPULOUS INDIVIDUALS WILL USE THIS INTERFERENCE BY THE PPL AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO INCITE RACIAL
    DISCORD.

AFTER LAST NIGHT, WE FINALLY SAW A GLIMMER OF HOPE THAT WE... THE MALAYS, THE CHINESE, THE INDIANS & THE REST OF M'SIANS COULD UNITE & BE AS ONE... AS BANGSA MALAYSIA.

LET NO ONE UNDO WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR... OTHERWISE ALL OUR EFFORT & HARD WORK FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS WILL BE A WASTE... A TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE WASTE.

LET US LEAVE THIS UMNO INTERNAL BICKERING TO THEMSELVES & JUST HELP OUR BROTHERS IN PKR, DAP, PAS TO CHART A BETTER FUTURE FOR OUR CHILDRENS & GRANDCHILDRENS.

    - BEERANYONE

I salute Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon .So far as seen on TV , he was the only one who is accepting defeat graciously . I have not seen the other Menteri Besar doing that( Kedah , Perak and Selangor ) . See how arrogant they are ....

BN lost as the PM did not really focus issues on this election : he is too preoccupied with his ejaculation ....

Cheers and a nice day to you , ma'am .

The difference between Koh and the other named Menteri Besar including Abdullah is that Gerakan lost all seats whilst UMNO didnt.

I strongly believe the opposition won because of cheatings and phantom voters

So the wolves have come out, haven't they? So that's politics for you! If Pak Lah leaves, will BN say that the problem is gone? Because the problem is about nepotism, cronyism, corruption and refusal to "serve" the rakyat - those problems are still there and need to be addressed.

Will the BN leaders wake up and listen to what we are trying to say? If not one day BN will be irrelevant. Let's have better quality leaders and ones that can talk about issues rather than tell us about the"development projects" that should be done anyway. Some leaders have overstayed their welcome - some are plain clowns, they embarrass Malaysians!

Someone in BN should start reading all the blogs... who knows, they may LEARN something...:)

  9. Congratulations to the oppositions for denying BN 2/3 majority. It's certainly a good win for all Malaysians.

It's a good wake up for all coalition front. Hopefully this will wake them up and instead of taking things likely and often so do whatever they want, they'll polish their attitude and strive to work for all Malaysians.

I believe Pak Lah should continue as PM. Everyone deserve a second chance and I'm sure he can do it if he listens to what all Malaysians is telling him in the election. We want change!!!

  10. I agree with Beeranyone. We have achieved our objective of deny BN 2/3 majority in Parliament and exceeded our expectation by capturing the key states in West Coast. Well done Barisan Rakyat!

Give our guys and gals in BR a chance to prove themselves. Forgive them if they make mistakes in the first 2 years but remind them and help them (and help ourselves) to get back on their feet quickly and maintain the strong force in BR.

I am breathing fresh air since Sat. I feel energized. The 50 years of same bad air are gone (too much "carbon dioxide" has killed our brain cells)

Good luck to the new teams in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor and Kelantan!

  11. pak lah's landslide victory in 2004 is simply because of the excitement of a new leadership after decades under dr. m. having given pak lah the chance to prove his worth and seen little good out of it, it is no surprise why he garnered lesser support this time around.

pak lah, now is the time you can resign with a little bit of dignity and grace - the people will acknowledge your taking the responsibility if you were to quit now. when it's too late, there will be no such dignity and honour left. so go on and stay as long as you want, pak lah. once the pressure begin to mount, you will regret not quitting when the time is just right for you to do so!

To Pak Lah just some note for him,

He should nok that " Khairy ( His Son in low ) bukanlah budak nakal yg berusaha memporak porandakan pembangkang, tapi sebenarnya dialah budak nakal yang berusaha meranapkan BN dari dalam. Most of their people are wins on this election ".

He should know how to differenciate between MENANTU and HANTU, Pls don"t let this NASTY guy to Led our country.

The imam of hadhari knows that if he goes, his SIL is finished for without his protection SIL is nobody. Kerismudin will be the first in the queue to anihilate his no. 2 and will be backed up by the Mongolian assassin.

I'm afraid another term for pak lah will see this country going into deep slumber together with him & his cronies... if umno is willing to let this happen, what can I say, its their choice... this type of people deserve this type of leader.

    Mengapa dia perlu resign?

Kemenangan pembangkang disebabkan penipuan dan pengundi hantu. Mesti mereka menang dengan menipu. Masakan bolih memang begitu banyak sekali.

I am glad that Barisan Rakyat will now have a strong voice in Parliament.

Maybe some REAL issues can now be addressed. Maybe the people can now be treated and respected as intelligent individuals. Maybe the scandals can now be investigated- for real this time instead of telling the people somewhat unbelievable and idiotic 'facts'.

Maybe BARISAN RAKYAT can now prove to the people they are not power hungry or rebellious for the sake of being rebellious. Maybe they can show that big mock cheques, excessive celebrations with hours of fireworks display, pretty monuments are not on their agenda. Maybe they can actually do something for the people rather than trying to show to the world "MALAYSIA BOLEH". There are real people here in the country. We are worried about our REAL people issues.

BARISAN RAKYAT - prove the people that we were right when we voted for you.

Rome was not built in a day!!!! Wake up Malaysians and stopped blame our PM. The facts, what can u do if u are in his position???

Our society was already badly sicked when Abdullah took over, and it needed time to cure it. And now people already sent a very clear msg to the government, and hope they heard it and hopefully react it.

Fellow malaysians, forget about BN, DAP, PKR and PAS, it is the time we should work together and moving forwards. Let us work together and achieve the glory we achieved during 60 and 70s, we want to become Asia champions not only Kampung Champions.

Based on his abysmal position, Pak Lah should resign as the UMNO chief, and also as the PM as the public has voted a BIG NO CONFIDENCE on his leadership. He should just serve as a normal parliamentarian.

Of course, UMNO should also mete out the appropriate punishments to Khairi J on his screwing up Pak Lah & UMNO

Pak Lah should stay. With his continued leadership, the people should be sufficiently pissed off to vote out the BN entirely.
