Al Fatihah For Sheikh Mustafa Shukor

Sheikh Mustafa Shukor, 32, was Angkasawan Dr Sheikh Muszaphar's younger brother.
The 32-year-old project planner, fell unconscious after knocking into a pillar outside a restaurant last Friday (Oct 26) in Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur. He died at 6pm on Saturday without regaining consciousness.
He leaves a wife, Haryati, 28 and two children, aged 3 and 2..

Sheikh Muszaphar arrived home from Moscow yesterday evening.
From the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, he headed straight to the state mosque where his father, Sheikh Mustapha Abdul Shukor, was waiting.
Then he was taken to the Tuan Haji Said cemetery where his younger brother was buried just hours earlier.

Fate intervened earlier when bad weather held up his flight in Moscow which caused him to miss his connecting flight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, thus preventing him from seeing his brother for the last time before his burial.
Our angkasawan was reported to be calm although the scene at the cemetery was, expectedly emotional when Sheikh Muszaphar rushed to the arms of his mother Zuraida Sheikh Ahmad and consoled his brother’s wife, Haryati Mohd Redza.

Sheikh Muszaphar said his brother’s passing was a test from Allah.

“I have to be strong for my family’s sake, especially my mother,” he remarked.

He calls his brother "Ajil" and dedicated his space mission to him.

Ajil, he said was his fanatic fan who was “a catalyst for his spirit and backbone of his success".

Some 250 family members, relatives and friends attended the funeral.

Sheikh Muszaphar, 35,will be home for a few days to attend the official homecoming reception before returning to Moscow for an inauguration ceremony scheduled for Nov 9.

This story is so so sad Nuraina! But it awakens us to the ironies of life (and death)and to the power of God's will over us puny humans!

While we are revelling in the glory of our human achievements He sends us a reminder not to love them too much! When we think we are about to conquer physical space and the enormous universe we are made aware that the little space he has created for us to remember Allah is more important.

My deepest condolences to the family of Sheikh Mustapha, especially his parents. For them it must be the most heart rending thing to lose a son when they are with another!

    AL FATIHAH!

    Al Fatihah.
    Takziah to the family.

I wonder how such a young man could have died after bumping into a pillar. Did he have a heart attack, stroke, ruptured brain aneurysm? Was an autopsy performed? I know Muslims don't like to defile the dead by doing autopsy, but the findings are important, one reason being that some things are hereditary or have a genetic basis and his siblings, parents and children may need to be screened. (Our angkasawan can of course be excluded, having been thoroughly poked and prodded both here and in Russia)

  8. Every start have the end. So do life. What matters is when we will go for good, but how we live and prepare for it.

Tazkiah to the family. May Allah blessings be always with the late Sheikh Mustapha Shukor. Al-Fatihah.

I accept death is inevitable. But I cant fathom how a young man like shukor could just die like that. The authorities said he bumped into a pillar and collapsed which led to the coma. Sounds simple. Is it as simple as that? The newspapers reported that there was no foul play. But as a reader, I am perplexed. In fact there are more questions than answers. Until and unless there is an inquiry, there will be doubts, and of course, conspiracy theories, as Malaysisns would like to put it. In fact, the whole episode looks surrreal. I am as perplexed as every Malaysian.

come one now. what conspiracy theories? what's so hard to belive? he fell and most unfortunately he hit his head which caused a blood vessel burst in his brain. even in today's most modern technology, some things can't be mended with the snap of the surgeon's fingers. brain aneurysm can cause coma and death or even instant death. mild ones can even cause paralysis. or some heal on their own. there is no need to speculat e the whys. it really saddens and infuriaties me to read of all the so called theories about his death (and also about his brother's sexual orientation just because he is unmarried and soft-spoken sheesh! u guys who do that need a life!).

Al-fathihah. May Allah bless his soul.

This is really a sad sad turnabout.
Of all the people in the world it had to happen to this family when the whole nation was looking forward to a joyful celebration of our Angkasawan's return. The fact that it was his dear brother who had to die in such a way and at such a time, just beats the brains of me.Of course as a believerin God i know His ways are higher BUT it is still so perplexing !!??!!
I just wish Angkasawan M and his family my heartfelt condolences and sympathies. My your brother's soul rest in peace and may you and your family be strenghtened thro this experience.
