War & Peace

Dignity, Justice, Peace & Love
Make love, Not war. And peace, brother.
This is the 21st century and the world is still a dangerous and violent place.
Nothing has quite changed except the level of brutality, the level of suffering and the sophistication of weapons of war.
That is why initiatives like the Perdana Global Peace Organisation conference/Exhibition, "Expose War Crime:Criminalise War" should be supported.
Whatever it takes, as they say, to put an end to war and mass killings.
Today is the last day of the three-day conference at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
We don't know how far the resolutions taken at the conference will go. If they don't go far, it will not be due to a lack of trying, surely.
One strong proposal is to set up a tribunal to try George W. Bush and Tony Blair for war crimes in Iraq.
Today, the delegates will formally launch the tribunal.
Our former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who is the man behind the Kuala Lumpur initiative, had said that while the tribunal will not have the legal authority of any international organization and will not be able to impose penalties, its aim is to condemn the accused in history books.
For example, if the tribunal found Bush guilty, he would not be hanged like Saddam Hussein was hanged. But he should always carry the label 'War Criminal, Killer of Children, Liar.
That's what Dr Mahathir said.
And I'd like to see that happen. I really do.
And I would like to say this again-- a blast from the past, from those Woodstock days -- "Make Love Not War"!

    sis nuraina,
dr mahathir's proposal to set up the war tribunal (to try blair, bush and howard) is typical of what he does that would get the world to tstand up and ake notice and rile the leaders of the super-power and its loyal stooges, which aren't confined to canberra or london.
we don't know how effective the tribunal can be but it is up to us to help make it effective. like so many things that malaysia did under his premiership - from buy british last to denouncing the idea that of a level playing field between rich and poor nations - this is an idea that needs support from all levels.
i have disagreed with some of the things the Old Man had done and was trying to do, but i have learnt not to rubbish him - or his efforts. the former pm does not do something without first covering all angles - and his ass!
my only fear is how the abdullah administration will react if the tribunal does, indeed, become effective and starts to irritate bush or other perpetrators of war.
what if bush decides to give abdullah a call and "talk" about the tribunal? will abdullah crumble and fall?
i hope not. we have seen how this administration pander to the wills of foreign powers. but lately, with the fta incident, when lantos called on fta talks to be suspended because of malaysia's involvement in the billion-dollar iranian gas project, abdullah didn't stand down.

so there is not reason for the malaysian goverment not to officially throw its support behind the tribunal initiative.

    {p.s.. but, really, AAB should have taken the opportunity to call for the fta talks to be suspended! really. because the fta is not going to be beneficial to us. no way the us government is going to let the iranian gas deal to scupper the fta talks with malaysia as there's so much more the americans can gain, at the expense of the malaysians, by locking in the fta.}

That Bush and Blair are guilty of one of the most horrendous crimes of the modern world is without doubt. But sad to say Dr Mahathir had to make a meal of it by calling them names and making a fool of himself. Also by questioning the SEpt 11 attacks, he leaves himself exposed to the belief that he has lost his marbles. He should expose the criminals in a dignified way instead of resorting to gutter-sniping. By this he has hurt the cause of every fair-minded people in the world.

    Kak Ai'na,
The trouble is that after making love, and getting bored and tired, they make war.
The irony is that the slogan was hatched in your younger days....and look what happened.

  4. Kudos to the ex premier for this step. The next thing he should do is make peace with all the domestic baggage for which he was responsible. The abuses in his own backyard which happened during his watch should never be forgotten.

  5. i luvvv Blacks Sabbath! I love Ozzy and i want Ozzy to be the President of the Great Britain!

check out black sabbath song/lyrics WAR PIGS...and make noise! not war!
    ---------------
    Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
    Evil minds that plot destruction
    Sorcerers of deaths construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
    Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds, oh lord yeah!

    Politicians hide themselves away
    They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
    Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!

Now in darkness, world stops turning
As the war machine keeps burning
No more war pigs of the power
Hand of God has sturck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
    Begging mercy for their sins
    Satan, laughing, spreads his wings
    All right now!

I can't help but feel you may have been influenced by a certain OCLIM.
I can't say that I am for or against TDM, but he has raised very good points, of which, it leaves one helpless but to feel obligingly supportive of his cause.

Its true, I for one cannot accept "we did not read it through" as an excuse, and "this was done by the civil servants", reasoning simply deos not hold water.

I am kind of a head of department, I scrutinise work orders, quotations, scope of works, ageemenrt, invoices, POs, MC's and thelikes of it within my 27 man team. And yet I find it difficult to scrutinise each and every document, and rely that my admin execs are able to support me in my efforts to keep my unit healthy for the company's cause.

So in a way, though I can't accept that excuse by TDM, I can understand it. So, in that way, I am not biased for or against him, and take each and every argument as it is.

just sharing my view on TDM, and his 'cause'. Oh, I didnt think it was particularly nice, that lallang thing that he did, but can you imagine otherwise?

Oh, what ever happened to the perpetrators in the Tinanamen Incident? Aren't we all rushing to go do business with the very people in that Red Party?
