However, on the fizical side of the fatwa I agree 100%.

Believe me or not gyms nowadays hire bangladeshee orr someonee from india to show that the yoga they are selling are original yogo from india. These instructors are mostly men. When you do a yoga stance to relax your body you have to do some normal poses and some elicit poses. When you do it "wrong", the instructors will correct you. sometimes even holding on to someones buttocks as if the pose is "wrong". Sometimes grabing it to put that someones buttocks in the right possition. Trust me, only attractive young girls do it wrong in the eyes of the instructors. the fat and the unattractive ones alway do it right.

Remember the fatwa council is there to remind us what is right and what is wrong in this never ending change in our lifestyle. Letting men touch ones privates in the name of excercise is not allowed in any religion. Remember, do yoga at home, alone.

Come on fatwa council, pls elaborate further or use laymen's terms in telling why its banded. if one of the reasons is what I have just writened, pls band it. I don't want some bungla grabing my wife's rear end.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-8261096613983591742008-11-10T23:11:00.000+08:002008-11-10T23:11:00.000+08:00I like what one your reader said "do your own rese...I like what one your reader said "do your own research".... one blog writer also make us ask ourself about yoga, not depend on mufti bulat-bulat for everyting......

http://tinyurl.com/6kkjzxAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-50975647721149656802008-11-10T19:40:00.000+08:002008-11-10T19:40:00.000+08:00I think what the council really wanted to say was ...I think what the council really wanted to say was "Lets destroy Hinduism". But they really can't say it because its not kosher and the international backlash they will be facing.

Its been done before, albeit crudely and slipshod, so they know the consequences. This is a new and innovative approach.

I remember the hatred against Hinduism in ugama classes. That was blatant, but it didn't work. I suppose they think this method may work.

I think this comment by "son" (9:26 AM) says it all:

i bet Yoga is good as long as the Muslims stay away from all the Hindu practise.

How is it bad if Hindus practice it? Does it make you chop people's head off or stone children to death?gangeticushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10885245872807072778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-38046340927270736692008-11-09T15:40:00.000+08:002008-11-09T15:40:00.000+08:00To the racist, ethnocentric Anonymous who claims t...To the racist, ethnocentric Anonymous who claims that India was the cradle of knowledge for mankind.

I have a bad news for you, historians have shown that the birthplace of human civilization was Mesopotamia, in modern day PERSIA, strategically situated between the river Euphrates and Tigris. It was in Mesopotamia in 5000 BC that the first urban societies emerged.

While I have to admit that the proto-Dravidian's Indus Valley civilization is old (2600–1900 BC), it is certainly not cradle of knowledge for Mankind. All of the mathematical and scientific achievements you so arrogantly mentioned were not the invented during the Indus Valley period, they were introduced by the Aryan race, descendants of proto-Indo-Iranians. So back to Persia we go.

As I Muslim I can brag all day long, about the excellent achievements in the fields of sciences, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, geography, zoology, botany made by the Muslims. We discovered gravity before Newton, we discovered the cardio-circulatory system before William Harvey, We discovered trigonometry, algebra, logarithm. In Astronomy we were so advanced that we discovered the direction of the Sun's eccentric was changing, which in modern astronomy is equivalent to the Earth moving in an elliptical orbit around the Sun.

And oh yeah, we Muslims gave you Indians the Urdu language.

But I'm going to get emotionally childish and say no non-Muslims can apply our Muslim knowledge. Why? Because sciences and knowledge BELONGS TO ALL. They are universal properties that belong to the entire human race. First the Sumerians got them, then passed down to the Egyptians and Indians, then to the Greeks, then to Muslims, and now the Western World.

You have made fun of my religion by questioning the nature of Islamic jurisprudence. How would you feel if I were to MAKE FUN of Hinduism? I have an idea or two. In fact I have tons of idea.

BUT I WILL NEVER MAKE FUN OF ANY FAITH. First, because Islam forbids it, and second I FIND IT STUPID AND BARBARIC.

My Indian friends, just because there is a FATWA AGAINST YOGA, doesn't mean that the art is evil or bad in the eyes of Islam. Muslims are taught to RESPECT OTHER FAITHS. Please understand that this concerns out faith .(akidah)selampithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10562491157384273237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-30587463149563447292008-11-06T12:32:00.000+08:002008-11-06T12:32:00.000+08:00India is Cradle of knowledge for Man KindSO I WOUL...India is Cradle of knowledge for Man Kind

SO I WOULD LIKE TO PROVIDE A VERY LOVELY STATEMENT NEXT JAKIM WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE IMPOSE FATWA BAN ON THE FOLLOWING:
1. He discovered this in the 6th century long before the European mathematicians. This was ‘validated’ by British scholars in 1999.
Algebra, trigonometry and calculus came from India. Quadratic equations were propounded by Sridharacharya in the 11th century.
The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 1053 with specific names as early as 5000 BC during the Vedic period. Just wanted to share my comment to theyogainstructordiaries.blogspot.com: As below:

YOGA HARAM?

By Saniboey Mohd Ismail

I read this today on Today newspaper (page 16) with the headline: Yoga May Be Banned For Muslim in Malaysia and it quoted the famous Perak Mufti, Harunsani Zakaria as saying: “If it involves any faith or religious elements, it is definitely not permissible but if it is just a form of exercise that is all right.” In the same news, it also quoted a professor in the Islamic Faculty of the National University of Malaysia, Zakaria Stapa saying that yoga could cause them (Muslims) to ‘deviate from their faith.’

Pantas Nini buat pelbagai justifikasi. Oh come on girl, please do not start a war because you know and do not be naïve that it will end with you on the loosing side.

Your justification should just be: “My yoga is a form of exercise. Nothing got to do with any of the six Hindu principle of Yoga at all.” That should be the only justification, period. But barangkali, Nini tengah marah and she went on and on and quoted a number of philosopher and golongan bijak pandai tentang kesahihan Yoga dalam Islam dan macam-macam lagilah.

Fact/Hakikat: Remind ourselves about the story of Qutbuddin Abdul Rahim a.k.a Shah Waliyullah Ad-Dehlawi, born on 4th of Syawal pada 1114 Hijrah near Delhi, India. Boleh dikatakan suasana yang berlaku ketika itu adalah sama seperti Rom dan Farsi sebelum kedatangan Islam and as you know, it is true that in every 100 decade, Allah pasti akan menurunkan seorang pembela agama dan barangkali Shah Waliyullah adalah tergolong

Fact/Hakikat: Shah Waliyullah berjuang berasaskan pendekatan melalui pena.

Let’s say somebody, a kid type “Sejarah Yoga” on the Internet and they shall find this on Wikipedia:

Nini, you sure you want to do all the religious justification now and have a war with them and end up with Harunsani saying that yoga is an enemy to Islam or you should re-think and just stick to: “My yoga, is a form of exercise?”

Your choice.

Tks.DonCorleonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08909136267973851287noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-71225465443793015292008-11-03T10:49:00.000+08:002008-11-03T10:49:00.000+08:00dear everyone, let me say here that i am not condem...dear everyone,
let me say here that i am not condemning the fatwa council for issuing the fatwa. not at all.
just stating an opinion.
that said, i realise that the council must have issued the fatwa following queries from Muslims with regards to yoga.
i do understand the need for them to issue th fatwa.
some muslims doing yoga are sceptical about it.
so, in all fairness, the council felt that it needed to come to a decision on yoga.
thank you.NURAINA A SAMADhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07671206532110686716noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-6775537766284527392008-11-03T10:41:00.000+08:002008-11-03T10:41:00.000+08:00I knew Yoga.

At the end of the day, you will be questioned first by god, whether your have fulfilled your obligation accordingly. So your nawaitu must be to please god first, people second.

What if you are to issue fatwas which go against the mainstream lifestyle? Must you hide it for fear that you may incite anger?

I'm not at a cross-road to choose whether or not to practice yoga, therefore this fatwa does not concern me much. I read a few comments from yoga practitioner who stated that yoga does not adversely affect their iman or aqidah in any way. Maybe you should rationalise with Majlis Fatwa. But to condemn the whole institution, just because you don't necessarily agree, is simply uncall for.cloudmckinseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05324006423800159907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-83763824583266853352008-11-01T12:38:00.000+08:002008-11-01T12:38:00.000+08:00yoga cannot, tight jeans cannot, short hair cannot...yoga cannot, tight jeans cannot, short hair cannot cos look tomboy but duit kopi can, murder can, robbing can..
The root of all evil..hee heeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-38530403.post-18294831522882231202008-10-31T20:22:00.000+08:002008-10-31T20:22:00.000+08:00I do yoga as part of my exercise, and as a result,...I do yoga as part of my exercise, and as a result, I have a pretty good physique.

Yes I am a Hindu (and proud of it!) and yes I do incorporate mantras into my yoga sessions. It is also sad that some muslims choose to practice yoga when in actual fact the same benefits (and more) can be derived from our daily prayers. Why not read the scientific findings on the daily prayers and tell others about it instead of condemning our fellow muslims. Here's one article: -

The "Yoga" of Islamic Prayer
By Karima Burns, MH, ND

Called "one of the oldest systems of personal development encompassing body, mind and spirit" by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, yoga has become one of the fastest growing health trends today. It has been renowned for centuries for its curative powers of movement.

Yoga consists of a number of "asnas," or body positions, which one retains for a desired length of time while either reciting "mantras" or breathing in a rhythmic manner. Its benefits have been researched by many doctors who now recommend it to their patients, by many medical schools such as Harvard, and by many foundations such as the Menninger Foundation.

In fact, yoga has become so popular that secretaries have developed a simplified sitting version that they can do at their desks. The elderly, pregnant women and athletes also have their own versions.

Interestingly, for the millions of people enrolled in yoga classes, the Islamic form of prayer has provided Muslims for fourteen centuries with some of yoga's same (and even superior) benefits. This simple form of "yoga" offers physical, mental, and spiritual benefits five times a day as Muslims assume certain positions while reciting Qur'an and athkar (remembrances).

Of course, not all the yoga positions are found in the Islamic prayer. However, hospital researchers have concluded that patients benefit from even a simplified version of yoga, and most hospital yoga programs, such as those at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Massachusetts, consist of only five to seven positions.

The Muslim prayer has five positions, and they all (as well as the recitations we make while performing the prayer) have a corresponding relationship with our spiritual and mental well being, according to modern scientific research. The benefits of performing specific movements and recitations each day come from the correct rendition of the position or action itself, the length of time the position is held, and from careful and correct recitation techniques.

Each of the five prayer positions has a corresponding yoga position, and the positions together "activate" all seven "chakras" (energy fields) in the body. The idea of activating a chakra may sound linguistically strange, but it is easier to understand once one translates that word into more familiar language.

Eastern healers believe that each of the chakras correlate to major nerve ganglia that branch forth from the spinal column. Thus, the concept of activating these nerve centers is akin to getting a chiropractic adjustment or installing a medical stimulating device on the spine to correct corresponding bodily malfunctions.

In layman's terms, the idea of chakras can be understood by thinking about how the sense of "feeling" functions. One notices, when touching any part of the body, that that part responds by being more "awake" and aware. Another part of the body that was not touched, but is along the same nerve pathway, may also respond.

When a person is sitting, for instance, they may not be thinking about their legs, which are momentarily at rest; however, if someone touches them, they will again be "aware" of them. Chakras work in much the same way.
Studies have found that varying areas of the body, when activated by touch, movement or thought, evoke specific emotional and physical responses in much the same way that a smile can evoke the feeling of happiness, and actually increase circulation – even if one was feeling sluggish and unhappy before smiling. This is one of the reasons that it is so important to perfectly perform all of the movements of the Islamic prayer, rather than haphazardly rushing through them.

The Takbir and Al Qiyyam together are very similar to the Mountain Pose in yoga, which has been found to improve posture, balance, and self-awareness. This position also normalizes blood pressure and breathing, thus providing many benefits to asthma and heart patients.

The placement of the hands on the chest during the Qiyyam position are said to activate the solar plexus "chakra," or nerve pathway, which directs our awareness of self in the world and controls the health of the muscular system, skin, intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and eyes. When the hands are held open for du'a, they activate the heart "chakra," said to be the center of the feelings of love, harmony, and peace, and to control love and compassion. It also governs the health of the heart, lungs, thymus, immune system, and circulatory system.

Muslim researchers have shown that when Muslims recite the Qur'an, old thoughts, feelings, fears and guilt are released or healed, and blood pressure and stress levels are reduced. Virtually all of the sounds of the Arabic language are uttered while reciting Qur'an, creating a balance in all affected areas of the body.

Some specific sounds, in fact, correspond to major organs in the body. In his research and creation of eurhythmy, Rudolph Steiner (founder of the Waldorf Schools), , found that vibrations made when pronouncing the long vowels, 'A', 'E' and 'U,' stimulated the heart, lungs, and the thyroid, pineal, pituitary, and adrenal glands during laboratory tests.

The position of Ruku is very similar to the Forward Bend Position in yoga. Ruku stretches the muscles of the lower back, thighs, legs and calves, and allows blood to be pumped down into the upper torso. It tones the muscles of the stomach, abdomen, and kidneys. Forming a right angle allows the stomach muscles to develop, and prevents flabbiness in the mid-section.

This position also promotes a greater flow of blood into the upper regions of body – particularly to the head, eyes, ears, nose, brain, and lungs – allowing mental toxins to be released. Over time, this improves brain function and ones personality, and is an excellent stance to maintain the proper position of the fetus in pregnant women.

The Sujud is said to activate the "crown chakra," which is related to a person's spiritual connection with the universe around them and their enthusiasm for spiritual pursuits. This nerve pathway is also correlated to the health of the brain, nervous system, and pineal gland. Its healthy function balances ones interior and exterior energies.

In Sujud, we also bend; thus activating the "base chakra," which controls basic human survival instincts and provides essential grounding. This helps to develop levelheaded and positive thinking along with a highly motivated view of life, and maintains the health of the lymph and skeletal systems, the prostate, bladder, and the adrenal glands. We also bend the "sacral chakra" during Sujud, thus benefiting and toning the reproductive organs.

The position of Al Qaadah, (or Julus) is similar to the Thunderbolt Pose in yoga, which firms the toes, knees, thighs, and legs. It is said to be good for those prone to excessive sleep, and those who like to keep long hours. Furthermore, this position assists in speedy digestion, aids the detoxification of the liver, and stimulates peristaltic action in the large intestine.

Last, but not least, the "throat chakra" is activated by turning the head towards first the right and then the left shoulder in the closing of the prayer. This nerve path is linked to the throat, neck, arms, hands, bronchials, and hearing – effecting individual creativity and communication.

It is believed that a person who activates all seven nerve pathways at least once a day can remain well balanced emotionally, physically and spiritually. Since this is the goal of all sincere Muslims, we all should strive to attain the perfection of stance, recitation, and breathing recommended in the Hadith while performing our prayers – the very same techniques of perfection taught in popular yoga, Tai Chi, and many other exercise classes.
+++++
people about it instead of condemning your fellow muslims.
